I was born and educated in the UK, attending Edinburgh University, completing a secretarial course and then going on to live abroad. I first spent two years in Algeria where I worked as a bilingual secretary in a steelworks. I then returned to the UK to complete a translating course, after which time I moved to Germany where I worked as a translator for 17 years, firstly in a translating agency and then for a medical electronics company. I then returned to the UK 9 years ago and established myself as a freelance translator. I became a Member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting in 1998.
Not content to rest on my laurels, I decided to do a postgraduate certificate of education in 2004 and now enjoy a combination of teaching and translating. I have also recently started teaching English at a major pharmaceutical company nearby.
I am an organized person, not only academically qualified but also skilled and trained in secretarial work. Reliable and conscientious, I have run my translating business efficiently for the past 9 years as well as attending to the welfare of my 3 children. This has involved working under maximum pressure, keeping to tight deadlines, running an efficient filing system and applying state-of-the-art computer skills.
I can build on a sound knowledge in the areas of medicine and technology, and will not accept work that lies beyond my areas of expertise.
I feel passionate about all my work. On visiting a long-standing client in Germany recently, I was overjoyed to hear her say that she had always been able to put 'her hand in the fire' for me! I enjoy a challenge and take pride in never having missed a single deadline.
