ترجمة فرنسي إلى أنجليزي [للمحترفين]
Bus/Financial - المحاسبة / audits
فرنسي مصطلح أو جملة: Audit légal ou conventionnel
Context - bullet point list of services offered by a consultancy firm:

 Audit légal ou conventionnel : commissariat aux comptes – audits ponctuels

Google hasn't helped a great deal :-)
My ignorance is such that I'm not even sure whether the "or" means this is 2 different types of audit or an alternative way of saying the same thing ("statutory audit", maybe?). I'm aware that conventionnel can have the meaning of "contractual"; alternatively, I'm wondering if they are not just saying "conventional" meaning usual, standard, traditional audit, i.e. a financial audit, as against all these new-fangled (!) "quality audits" and suchlike.

Charlie Bavington (asker): 21:09 Jul 17, 2005: I should perhaps point out that I am currently resisting the temptation to just put "legal/statutory or conventional audit" because my suspicion is that perhaps the "conventionnel" means something specific, which is the point of the question, really.
However, if it *does* just mean "statutory or conventional audit", then fine, I can go with that :-)

statutory or voluntary (discretionary) audit
شرح:
Statutory financial audits are those required by law, such as for insurance companies or banks. Then there those audits that are not mandatory under the law, although they may be required by the securities and exchange authorities, for instance. They may be called voluntary or discretionary, even though they do result from an "agreement". Another way that I might choose to say this is "statutory or other audits" although it does beg the questions somewhat; given your context, however, it might be the best solution.

This is what I went with (using discretionary). Thanks for your help - invaluable.

The expression "légal ou conventionnel" means required either by law or by the conventions of a company; I am not in fact sure if contractual is the right word.
