Tech/Engineering - السماكة-صيد السمك / Precision engineering | | فرنسي مصطلح أو جملة: billes, perles, tubes | I am not sure if I have filtered this question correctly (fisheries) but I need help with some industry-specific terms.
I am doing my best to translate some text (which is, unfortunately only in brief note form) describing the activities of a precision-machining company, which makes small parts for various industries (including, inter alia, the aerospace and medical industries) and have come across these three terms which are clearly to do with the fishing industry. I think (but am not sure, as this is really not my area!) they might mean something like:
perle = bead (I just about get this one!)
bille = bead head? (I don't know what this is, though)
tube = tube? (exactly what kind of tube, I wonder?)
It looks to me as if these headings are intended to give a general idea of the sort of thing they can manufacture with regard to the fishing industry, but really need some help with choosing the right terms.
Anyway, here is the context (pls. excuse missing accents):
Aersopatial, medical, titane, maval, inconel tolerance 6 microns;
Industrie peche: billes, perle, tubes;
Decoration: boulons ecrous
Ameublement: cheville, vis

| ملاحظة(ات) إلى/من السائلTony M: 09:51 May 21, 2007: I don't know the specific terms you're after, but I would just say that a 'perle' is probably a more-or-less spherical object with a hole through it for threading onto (a rope, etc.), whereas a 'bille' will be a more-or-less spherical object w/o hole.

Yes, I am sure you are both right and was thinking of that very distinction when I posted the question (hence the doubt about 'fisheries' being a good place to put the question. Judging by the surrounding context, even though in brief note form, I would think it was more to do with angling for enthusiasts (who are possibly those same DIY enthusiasts who will buy the nuts and bolts etc.)...I suspect they are talking about those little weights you clamp onto your fishing line. I am sure there must be some anglers out there who would know the best terms to use. Anyway, thanks for your helpful input.

God knows what they play with nowadays (I dread to think, but will ask my daughter)Anyway - for the purposes of this question, I'm not quite sure where marbles would come into it with fishing on any scale. Unless of course you lost your marbles and decided to take up fishing full-time (ok, no angry anglers to write in, please, I was only joking - I understand that fishing is a very relaxing pastime for those who are very much in control of their marbles and can afford to take the time off... !). As for ball bearings, well, they appear to be used in just about every industry I can think of (apart from the beauty industry... but give 'em time!)... :)
French2English: 10:55 May 21, 2007: Upon further research... - ... I think it is a fairly safe bet that these terms are referring to:
billes = ball bearings for use in fishing reels
perles = beads (i.e. small weights for the line)
tubes = tubes (apparently). But will certainly add a note as I'm no fisherman!
Dominic D: 11:01 May 21, 2007: Believe it or not marbles are still played at school (in France anyway) but it seems even more complicated than I remember and they've even got flat marbles called "Chinese marbles" that slide instead of roll!!!
