Art/Literary - الموسيقى / opera | | فرنسي مصطلح أو جملة: chassé-croisé | In a description of "The Coronation of Poppea" (L'Incoronazione di Poppea), which Wikipedia says has some "steamy love scenes" ! Much bed-hopping between Emperor Nero, wives, mistresses and various lovers, described in my text as "un charmant et douteux chassé-croisé".
Any ideas for the "chassé-croisé"? Many thanks. |

I like this since it has a bit of a literary flavor to it with "to and fro", as opposed to saying simply "comings and goings".
comings to and fro, both charming and suspect.
It's charming to see all these people coming and going all day long from wherever, but it also has a suspect nature to it (what are they doing in there?).
By the way, I would not deviate too far from the literal meaing here.
Think of a holiday travel (chassés-croisés) to get a better idea of what the French is truly saying.

السائل: Thank you Gabuss. I think yours would be an excellent answer for a "chassé-croisé amoureux" though in this instance it was more about debauchery than love! It's good to have your idea for future reference though. Thanks!
