فرنسي مصطلح أو جملة: bande spectacle (music)
This is from a music director's comments about the music he's creating for a theatrical production of a musical. Is this the equivalent of a soundtrack for the theater? If so, does anyone know the correct term? I'm not quite sure what he means by "couleur" either. Thanks, Karen

"Nous sommes partis du scenario. Nous avons ensuite écouté les differentes versions deja realisées pour trouver la bonne couleur et elaborer notre propre bande spectacle."

Karen Tucker (asker): 13:24 Mar 20, 2004: clarification - This is a 25-minute musical production for an amusement park, so it's not a typical musical. I wasn't sure myself at first, but farther down in the text, it comes clear the music will be recorded.

Soundtrack, or "recording to be used in performance"
شرح:
Most musicals don't use canned music. Is this only part of the music? Or is it being used in a figurative sense - which seems likely?

"the right color" - musical (and general) term with the same meaning in both languages - the score doesn't change, but the interpretation does.

OK - before I\'m taken to task, I take it back. Modern musicals do use canned music. So the answer depends on the facts of the situation.

We used to say \"sound tape\" or \"performance tape\", but it\'s often not a tape now, but a CD or a computer. \"Performance recording\"

To clarify, musical color (or colour) usually has to do with both the emotional and the technical elements of the interpretation - are the violins sweet or strident, does the timpani dominate or blend in? Is it played sad and mournful, or upbeat and bouncy?

Actually both these answers are accurate; I found both "music track" and "soundtrack" in reference to plays. I decided on soundtrack because it's such a commonly known term and this is for a general audience. Below is a comment by a theater critic about the "soundtrack" for a play. Thanks to both of you! Karen

"What did surprise me was how little of the show's incidental music matched the soundtrack album of the show. (Yes, soundtrack: While we all know that a stage property can have an original cast album and a movie property may have a soundtrack, here's a rare case--like Contact--where a stage show does have a soundtrack because the songs in the show aren't sung by the performers. Rather, they are recordings played over the theater's sound system.)"

the is a music track that has been put together to be played during the show. a soundtrack per se is something else (usually music from a film).

Music-Track Jukebox
... Having to skimp on the music is especially troublesome, because nothing signals a cheap production more than a tacked-on music track that doesn’t quite fit. ...
