Bio
I graduated at the American University in Cairo, with a Mass Communication major and a Psychology Minor. Translation was among the essential courses I studied in Journalism. One of these courses was"Advanced Translation", in which I got an " A" .My emphasis study was in Public Relations, where I studied how to prepare surveys, questionnaires, and interviews. My major required a good knowledge in a variety of fields, so I studied economics, political science, anthropology, sociology, history, photography, ethnographic and political films, comparative and Arabic literature, and music. I, therefore, acquired a broad field of knowledge, which helped me in my career as a freelance translator.
I also joined an institution for Islamic studies, where I studied the Arabic grammar, besides the different Islamic studies, which helped improve my Arabic translation. I also finished memorizing the "Holy Quran",and for the past 10 years I have been teaching Quran and "Tajweed".I have participated in competitions for memorizing the Quran, and won the first prize in one of them.
Throughout my entire life, I have studied piano courses. My love for piano playing exceeded all my interests. I would spend two consecutive hours playing the piano, and I would spend the rest of the day listening to famous classical musicians. I also took a course in musical instruments, to know the different instruments and learn how they sound.
I love cooking. I have read tens of cookery books, and tried about a hundred recipes. I may bake croissants in the early morning, or a cheese cake just before going to sleep.
I love learning, and never feel shy to make a mistake. No one knows everything.
My youngest son taught me the computer skills. I was completely ignorant in computer. In a few months I succeeded in learning the different skills, and my husband and my children bought me a lap top at my birthday. Hence, I decided to start a new career.
I have been working as a freelance translator for the past five years, mainly in the fields of public relations, surveys, questionnaires, technical music and artist blurbs, education and pedagogy, medical general, economics and marketing.
I have worked on interesting projects with a musical website, which included competitions, recording and mixing services (technical), official rules of the website, artist blurbs to promote new artists, and many other projects.
I worked on a medical and healthcare project with an international organization.
I participated in preparing an economic and demographical glossary related to a national study.
I worked on a survey with an eminent national university in my country.
I translated biographies of eminent professors.
I translated the Arabic brochure of an international company specialized in slaughter equipments.
I worked on a number of projects with a cosmetics website.
