Questions and Answers for employees
Further to our informal group meetings with you it is our aim to make this process as transparent and visible as possible and we thought it would be useful to put something in writing to you that explained the proposal and responded to some of the initial questions you may have.
Why are Harrods proposing to change our shift patterns?
Currently we have 34 shift patterns within Store Services. This means that a lot of time is spent allocating employees rather than focusing on what needs to be done. It also means that often we do not have enough cover to ensure that Harrods and the back of house areas are maintained to the high standards necessary. The shift patterns in place at the moment mean that at certain times we have too few staff and that at other times too many. We also end up having to pay out excessive overtime as a result of this.
What exactly are Harrods proposing?
We are proposing that going forward we will have only four different shift patterns:-
• 6am – 10am, 6 days per week, 24 hours (8am – 12pm on Sundays) – 65 employees
• 6am – 10am, 5 days per week, 20 hours (8am – 12pm on Sundays) – 10 employees
• 10am – 7pm / 11am – 8pm (12pm – 9pm at peak times) – alternating rota, 5 days per week – 58 employees
• 8pm – 5.30am, 5 nights per week, 42 hours – 12 employees
We believe that this will give us the cover we need to both get the Store ready for opening and to ensure high standards are maintained throughout the day.
How do Harrods want to do this?
We are committed to consulting with you, your Shop Steward and your Union representatives
As explained in the group meetings, we want to devote an initial period of approximately a month to speaking informally on a one-to-one basis with each of you who will be affected by this to understand how you will be affected and how easy or difficult it will be for you to change shifts. Gary White will organise one meeting for each of you affected with either himself, someone else in the Store Services management team or someone in Human Resources. These will be informal meetings at which we want to hear your thoughts and opinions. At the same time we will be meeting regularly, again on an informal basis, with your Shop Steward to hear any points that he has to raise.
At the end of this period of initial consultation we will be able to decide how we will proceed going forward. We hope that you understand the reasons for this proposal and that we will be able to reach agreement with as many of you as possible during the informal process but it may be at this point that we need to enter into more formal collective consultation with you and your Union representatives. Whatever the case we will keep you and your Union informed, let you know what we are doing and what our plans are, this will include letting you know how many meetings we would expect to hold with you and your Union representatives and the format that those meetings would be likely to take. We will of course comply fully with all our legal obligations.
How can contracts be varied?
• An existing contract of employment can be varied with the agreement of both parties. Changes may be agreed by collective consultation with your union or by agreement with you on an individual basis.
• An employer, like Harrods, who is proposing to change an employee's contract of employment should fully consult with the employees, and where appropriate, their representatives and explain and discuss any reasons for change. It is better for any agreed changes to be recorded in writing.
Does my contract allow Harrods to do this?
• A contract may contain terms which allow an employer to make changes in working conditions unilaterally.
• Through flexibility clauses, for example, an employer may be able alter the employee's duties or their hours or pattern of work. The contract may therefore be drafted to permit reasonable changes to be made within the terms of the existing agreement. Many of our contracts at Harrods are like this.
What happens if I do not agree to the proposed changes?
If, after consultation, it has not been possible to reach agreement, Harrods could consider ways of introducing the necessary changes by legal means after issuing the appropriate notice to you. However, this would be our least desired option and our aim is to reach an agreement with you.
What should I do in the meantime if I have any questions?
If you have queries of any nature please do not hesitate to contact Gary White or to contact Jo Pertwee or Erica Dickinson in HR (extension 5892 or 3970). We will be happy to sit down and talk with you. We will also be meeting regularly over the next month or so with Jimoh, your Shop Steward, so you may also choose to meet with him.

Kodėl Harrods siūlo pakeisti pamainų tvarkaraštį?

Pirminių konsultacijų periodo pabaigoje galėsime nuspręsti kaip tai atliksime ateityje. Tikimės, kad jūs suprasite šio pasiūlymo priežastis ir sugebėsime gauti jūsų daugumos sutikimus neformalaus proceso metu, bet yra galimybė, kad mums reikės pradėti formalesnes konsultacijas su jumis ir jūsų profsąjungos atstovais. Kaip gali pasikeisti darbo sutartys?

Welcome to the latest edition of your Local Link. We have a lot to update you on, from the completion of our new homes at Casson Road in Workington to feedback from our recent Group-wide Family Fun Day. We’ve also got an article on our plans for taking forward our Estates Services Team and arrangements to move them from their current base in Westfield into new premises.
I hope you have had an opportunity to review our Annual Report which was recently sent to you. The report is our opportunity to feed back to you on the work we do to benefit communities across D&S and the wider Harvest Housing Group, so please take time to have a look and give us your valuable feedback.
If you are interested in getting involved in developing our services, we have a vacancy on our board for a tenant board member which is open to all tenants and leaseholders, (please see the article on page X).
Finally, you will have been advised that we plan to merge with Arena Housing Group and create a new and stronger organisation. The new organisation will focus on your needs and aspirations from April 2012 and I want to reassure you that we will continue to strive to deliver the best service possible during the changes ahead which could take up to three years to fully complete.
