Partir pour l'Inde est un long voyage. Le personnel navigant met un point d'honneur à satisfaire le client. Une plaquette Namaste (bonjour, en hindi) a été éditée à son intention pour mieux appréhender les relations à tisser avec les passagers. La brochure préconise, par exemple, d'éviter de répondre par la négative, d'utiliser un ton doux et courtois, de ne pas faire de gestes amples ou brusques et de ne jamais rien designer du doigt. Tout contact physique est à éviter, y compris avec les enfants. Enfin, s'abstenir d'utiliser la main gauche, considérée comme impure.

It's a long flight to India. The flight crew makes a point of meeting all its clients' needs. A Namaste (hello in Hindi) brochure has been printed for the crew, detailing the best ways of keeping the passengers happy. For example, the brochure advises against replying in the negative; suggests using a courteous, gentle tone of voice and avoiding sudden or exaggerated movements; and it also warns against using their fingers to point. Physical contact, including with children, is to be avoided. And finally, the crew is taught not to use the left left hand, which is considered unclean.

The Indian clientele is reserved, usually speaks English and Hindi and does not tend to ask for things -hence the importance of anticipating their needs through specific products and attitudes developed by Air France. Designed by architect Philippe Mathieux and landscape gardener Jacques Vergely in 1988, the "green walk" across the 12th arrondissement of Paris gives urban dwellers a real taste of the countryside. To start this promenade, take the staircase to the top of the Viaduc des Arts, a stone's throw from the Bastille opera house. Amid a mass of vegetation -lime and cherry trees, bamboo forest- visitors will find themselves walking in front of the balconies of residential buildings, passing joggers, mothers with pushchairs, the odd tourist and a series of nude statues. Down below, the bustle of the city seems like another world. Further along, the walkway overlooks the Reuilly gardens, before dipping down to street level and into a series of tunnels. In one, stone sculptures appear to loom out of the walls. This promenade comes to an end at a fence atop a green pylon-like structure, with a spiral staircase leading back down to the reality of urban life.

Un peu plus loin, le chemin surplombe le jardin de Reuilly avant de se poursuivre au niveau de la rue et de s'engouffrer dans une succession de tunnels dont l'un est orné de sculptures de pierre qui semblent sortir du mur. La promenade s'achève par une barrière, au sommet d'une construction verte en forme de pylône autour duquel s'enroule un escalier. On se retrouve alors face à la réalité de la ville.

My knowledge of French and English languages i as well as their associated grammars and cultures is excellent.
French is my mother tongue but I have been living and working in the United Kingdom for over 20 years. I have completed translations on many topics (a manual for a deboning machine, a website for a fertility clinic, a magazine specialising in cross-stitching for example). I have also subtitled many films and documentaries (VPRO, Netflix, Fox etc). Last but not least I taught French and translation at University level for nearly 20 years.
