WALTHAM, Mass. – November 10, 2014 – Lionbridge Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: LIOX) today announced a definitive agreement to acquire CLS Communication, a privately-held provider of translation solutions to clients in the financial services, industrial, public sector and life sciences markets. The combination of Lionbridge and CLS will address growing demand for integrated, technology-enabled translation solutions that allow organizations to create, translate and manage digital content worldwide.

Lionbridge expects to purchase CLS Communication for approximately 74 million Swiss Francs, or approximately $77 million US Dollars in cash, subject to estimated cash and debt adjustments at closing and certain post-closing adjustments. The acquisition is being funded using Lionbridge’s existing cash and a new credit facility through its long-standing banking partner, HSBC, who is acting as the leading syndicator. More.

Sad news Nov 12, 2014

The only translated material I have been reading during the past couple of years concerned financial news and investment advice in three languages - French, English, German - made available to me by my bank, the Swiss bank UBS. The only translated material I have been reading during the past couple of years concerned financial news and investment advice in three languages - French, English, German - made available to me by my bank, the Swiss bank UBS. And this material was always perfectly translated by this bank's translation vendor, CLS communication. It contained a lot of very specialized financial terminology but also a lot of idiomatic expressions, jokes etc. And I always liked to read the three versions and to compare them. I certainly would change banks if I do not get the same high quality information in these three languages anymore.

Being a financial translator myself, I would think that if machine translation with post-editing were able to produce the same high-quality translations, then, unfortunately, we would all have to change jobs.

Very sad indeed... Dec 5, 2014

"Kafkaesque" is the word that best describes my personal experience with Lionbridge. I feel sad for the employees of CLS Communication.

Nothing to be happy about this news Dec 14, 2014

I encounter Lionbridge mostly regarding their workspace system and only that experience would be enough to make me think of other things involved this name. They dont play fair and the way they behave goes against what they preach. It reminds me of a story about a greedy and hungry fish that eats all the other fish that the ocean runs out of fish and so in the end, it eat itself to death.
