ProZ.com is pleased to announce its online Beginning Russian Language Course

No knowledge of Russian is necessary to start classes. Each class includes pronunciation practice and vocabulary review.

Russian language is also offered at an Intermediate level, and Advanced level .

Conversational Russian is offered as a separate module in all levels to those who want to practice their existing language skills. (see below)

The pace and concrete details of classes are adjusted to the needs and preferences of every student

The training is provided on a one-to-one basis, using Skype or MSN . Dates and times are agreed between the lecturer and the student.

Unit 1



  • Introduction to Russian. Alphabet recognition.
  • Starting to read, practicing pronunciation, beginning vocabulary: Russian words with Latin roots.
  • Salutation and getting acquainted.
  • Numbers 1 – 10. Conversation, writing, vocabulary review.

    Duration: 4 hours. Cost :

Unit 2



  • Reading a connected text, answering questions. The noun.
  • Basic information about yourself, profession. The pronoun.
  • Question words. Conversation and reading. Family.
  • Talking about family. Adjective.

  • Duration: 4 hours.

Unit 3



  • Describing objects and people. Days of the week.
  • Concept of the case: Nominative and Prepositional cases of noun. Asking where something or somebody is.
  • Discussing geography of Russia using Prepositional case.
  • Review, conversation. Telling address. Numbers 10 – 20. Russian saying.

  • Duration: 4 hours.

Unit 4



  • Introduction to the verb, infinitive, 1st conjugation verbs: to do, to work, to understand
  • Verb conjugation. Talking about what we do, where we work. Reading.
  • 2nd conjugation verbs: to speak, to love. Taking about what we love to do, our hobbies. Present tense of verbs.
  • Some words of the new Russian lexicon – words which recently entered Russian vocabulary mostly from the English language, and how they are adopted using Russian grammar rules – a subject which causes a lot of controversy in Russia.

  • Colors. Russian song.

    Duration: 4 hours

Unit 5



  • Continuing with reading. Possessive pronoun.
  • To have. Describing your home.
  • Describing appearance. Talking about friends and people we know.
  • Accusative case of nouns.

  • Duration: 4 hours.

Unit 6



  • What and who do you love? Your hobby, likes and dislikes.
  • Past tense. A poem by Alexander Pushkin.
  • What did you do yesterday?
  • Negative form of the verb. Russian romance.

  • Duration: 4 hours.



Further classes may be planned and scheduled depending on the demand. Three more cases of noun and many other fascinating topics of Russian grammar and culture remain to be discussed.




Conversations in Russian.


    Topics may include any subjects chosen by the student or suggested by the teacher from art, poetry and literature to business and commerce.
    Each conversational topic is offered as a 4 hour Unit, one or more. Topics are chosen by the student.

Bio: MA degree in teaching, translation and interpreting from Moscow Linguistic University. Martina has 20 years of experience teaching Russian language to college students and adults. Her courses include Russian language for Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced levels, Russian literature and poetry, often incorporating cultural information to her classes. Presently, Martina is teaching Russian at a NYC language school.
