Delete character

I need a character to use in find-and-replace in MS Word that deletes the character that comes next (as well as disappearing itself). Example:


Original string: "Text to be dis#zplayed"

Find what: #
Replace with: [This is what I am looking for!]

Final string: "Text to be displayed"

Any ideas? (Don't ask me why I need it)

Can you use a wild card? Feb 10, 2019

I'd have thought you'd simply use #* and check the 'use wildcards' box, then leave the 'replace with field' empty

Would that not work? I haven't got time to try it right now...

If I understand you correctly, try this:

Find what: #^$
Replace with:

(i.e., leave the "Replace with" field empty, but hit the Replace/Replace All button nonetheless)

Doh, it's so simple. How couldn't I figure it out?!

#^? works with any character, #^$ with letters only (which incidentally is my case).

Tony, your option works as #? with wildcards - except that I need to use something other than # or other special characters.
