Hi there,
I was wondering what is normally the expectation for a localisation/content editing job?
Is the text supposed to be already proofread and be of good quality and the translator only corrects for local terms? In this case, the budget should be lower than that of proofreading?

I was offered a job like that, expecing reviewing the source mainly, but the document ended up needing actual proofreading (many misstranslations, etc.) in addition to localisation and placement of a huge number of tags (close to 1000). Obviously, there's an issue between me and the PM.

I think "localisation" and "proofreading" are two of the most difficult words to define. I doubt I've had two clients in all my years who've had the same definition. I don't assume anything. I quote only my hourly fee up front. Then I look through the text, get an idea of what I could do, and ask the client what they want done. Only then can we begin to discuss the scope and cost of the job.
