OmegaT usage of Glossary Thread poster: Timo Baumeister

Hello OmegaT Community, I have one question, is it possible to use your own glossary for automatic translation? And if yes, is there any tutorial how to set it up? Thanks in advance! | | | Samuel Murray Netherlands Local time: 09:31 Member (2006) English to Afrikaans + ...

When you say "glossary", do you mean a bilingual list of words (what we call a "glossary") or a bilingual list of sentences (what we call a "TM/translation memory")?

A glossary is just a list of words. To do an "automatic translation" you need a translation memory (TM). See the OmegaT manual. You get a TM (bilingual file) from work you have done previously in a CAT tool, or files than you have aligned. Otherwise, you're talking about machine translation by Google Translate, DeepL, etc., which is done by algorithms, not humans, and is imperfect at best. | | | esperantisto Local time: 10:31 Member (2006) English to Russian + ... You can do sort of machine translation based on the glossary when you enable Insert the source text in the editor options and Replace glossary hits when inserting source text in the glossary options. Obviously, your glossary has to contain all words (and collocations as necessary) from the source text if you want source segments to be translated completely. | |
