What is a good alternative to Google Cloud Translation API for SDL Trados Studio 2019?

In your opinion, what is a good alternative to Google Cloud Translation API for SDL Trados Studio 2019?

Hi Marina, have you tried this SDL Language Cloud? If you have a licence, you should have 500,000 characters for free every month.

Hi Elena! Thank you for your support. I bought my license for SDL Trados Studio 2019 Freelance Plus in 2018.
I tried to use the SDL Language Cloud, but I receive the following message:

Your subscription is expired - Learn more When I click on 'Learn more', I only see the following message:

Welcome to SDL Language Cloud
Get the best translation results by using our service

Well, that didn't really get me the best translation results...

After that, I tried to use the SDL Machine Translation Cloud Provider. I selected the authentication type 'Studio Credentials - SDL Language Cloud' and the program confirms that I am signed in as '[email protected]'. I click on 'OK' and then the program shows a 'Sign In' button again.

That's it. Any idea what I am doing wrong or can try next?

If you do not mind paying for MT, you can try ModernMT. I have used it when it was for free for 3 months due to coronavirus (English-Polish language pair) and it was very good. Its 25 USD per month.

That's 250 $ a year! Hmm... I think I really am a penny-pincher.

Well, I did write an email to SDL Sales about this yesterday. I am curious if they have anything to offer. So far they have not responded...

Hi Marina,

The goal of the thread you mentioned is to use a proper approach to comparing MTs when you are shopping. Doing side-by-side comparison of the same translated text between MTs can help you have an idea which one will deliver the best results for your needs. Thus you can make an educated purchase knowing what to expect and if there's an ROI. Don't hesitate to post your findings in the mentioned thread, that could help someone else.

By the way, for En-De, check DeepL, depending on your text needs, the output in German is usually quite good I hear.

I'm trying to find the online form I filled when I had issues. Now I have no problems and I find the output excellent in the Eng-ita pair.
SDL keep changing pages and packages, but you should have the free package included.

After I click on 'Learn more', nothing happens.

After I click on the 'Resources' button, a message pops up:

SDL Language Cloud
You don't have permissions for this account.

Then I am kicked out of the program and sent back to the log-in prompt *grrr*

I already contacted SDL support, and they have answered today. This is what they wrote:

Boths links don't help me. I have asked the support how I can see what Google Translation API Key I am using (v2 or v3). I am now waiting for the next email from SDL Support...

Try SDL LC support Aug 28, 2020

Hi Marina, I used Google translate in Studio in 2018-19, then my free subscription expired and the plugin stopped working, So I switched to SDL free MT.

I was suggesting you to contact SDL LC support, which is only for Language Cloud issues at this page: https://gateway.sdl.com/webtocaselcmt
They helped me fix my SDL Language Cloud issues a couple of times. SDL cancelled free subs... See more
