Small butcher knife/ pocket knife Explanation: Saraa, You are not giving us enough context. It is almost rash and at the same time frustrating to suggest translations of nonstandard or colloquial words without a larger context as it is the case in this instance. As you know (خنصر) is the pinkie or the little finger. (خنصرين) is the subjunctive/genitive dual form of the word (خنصر). The only reference to (خنصر) that makes sense in the desultory phrases you have provided can be found in (قاموس اللهجة العامية المصرية): خَنْصَرَ: to embezzle, defraud, خَنصَرة: embezzlement, fraud. خنصر: the little finger; butcher's small knife. The last meaning makes sense if they are talking about property and money. So I would say: two small butcher knives. (You can hyphenate (butcher-knives). "a small butcher-knife" is more idiomatic than butcher's small knife. The term is akin to pocket knife. You have depleted my resources with this one. Cheers Ali -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2002-12-12 21:06:13 (GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- Saraa - You\'re welcome. I must admit, that was a tough nut to crack, as the immediate context (co-text) was restrictive. But keep them coming. All the best. Cheers, Ali. |
