Source text - English Up till now the civil war had not shown its more terrible aspect; soon, however, its grimmer side began to appear. My first contact with the front was in Aragon on the Huesca sector. I travelled up and down the line looking for a suitable location for our medical unit.
I became familiar with the little stone villages where the various militia columns had their headquarters, and I spent many hours bumping over those stretches of soft dust, big boulders, and deep holes which the inhabitants of the remoter parts of Aragon agree to call roads.
After a time I realised one remarkable thing. I had seen no munition dumps. Occasionally, very occasionally, I passed a lorry with a few boxes of rifle or machine-gun ammunition. There was no artillery visible nor any signs of artillery having passed by or being in the neighbourhood. Afterwards, I had abundant proof of the scarcity of Government artillery on every front. Occasionally a single plane flew over on some bombing or reconnoitring flight behind the enemy’s lines.
Later, on the Madrid front, I saw one of these bombers start. It was an ordinary passenger plane with a covered top out of which it would have been quite impossible to fire a machine-gun. This had not much importance, however, as even if it had been possible to use one there was no machine-gun available.
Bombs were piled into the plane, and when the objective was reached they had to be thrown out of the door by hand.
This improvised bomber plane went off to do its job without the usual escort of chaser planes to protect it.
There were no chasers availavailable. It went off single-handed to run the gauntlet of the German Junkers and the Italian Capronis, manned by skilled men, many of whom had gained their skill by practice on living targets in Abyssinia.

Al cabo de un tiempo reparé en un hecho digno de mención: no había visto ningún arsenal. Ocasionalmente, muy ocasionalmente, adelanté a algún camión cargado con unas pocas cajas de munición para rifles o ametralladoras. No había artillería a la vista; tampoco indicios de que alguna acabase de pasar o se encontrase en los aledaños del lugar. Más adelante comprobaría con creces la escasez de artillería del gobierno, patente en cada uno de los frentes. De vez en cuando pasaba un único avión que se dirigía a efectuar algún bombardeo o vuelo de reconocimiento tras líneas enemigas.
Más tarde, en el frente de Madrid, pude ver en acción a uno de estos bombarderos. Se trataba de un avión ordinario de pasajeros con una cubierta desde la que era imposible disparar una ametralladora. Esto, sin embargo, no tenía demasiada importancia: aunque se hubiese podido, no había ametralladoras disponibles.
Las bombas se apilaban en el interior del avión y, cuando se
alcanzaba un objetivo, debían lanzarse manualmente desde la compuerta.
Este bombardero improvisado fue a hacer su trabajo sin la habitual escolta de los cazas.
No disponían de este tipo de aviones. Partió sin ninguna ayuda a soportar el asedio de Junkers alemanes y Capronis italianos tripulados por hombres expertos, muchos de los cuales habían adquirido su destreza practicando sobre blancos vivientes en Abisinia.

Source text - English 2. Design and Features
In case of radial fans, the medium is entering the impeller axially through a piping, a suction box or directly from outside. The impeller is equipped with six blades being bent backward, thus deviating the medium to radial direction. The conversion from flow energy into static pressure is effected to a great extent in the impeller.
The standard execution of this high-efficiency impeller is made of PPs, and the transmission of the torque is effected by means of a steel hub being mounted in the impeller and being protected against corrosion. Each impeller is balanced electro-dynamically in two levels, balancing quality Q 6.3, according to VDI 2060.
The plastic housing is provided to bring the medium together and to drain it. It is dimensioned according to the required nominal pressure rates. The standard housing is equipped with a condensate drain being located at the lowest point which can be connected to a discharge pipe in case of excessive formation of condensate. The suction nozzle is fastened by screws, and thus can be easily removed. A gasket, each, is inserted in the nozzle and at the back panel of the housing. The housing is fastened to the base frame.
The base frame (rack) is made of St 37, and it is galvanized. Bore-holes are prepared to fasten the vibration absorbers. The vibration absorbing elements are reducing the transmission of the dynamic load to the substructure.
The standard fans can be delivered in two executions.
Design D The impeller is fastened directly at the motor shaft. The design of the motors is B5.
Design R The drive is effected by V-belts. The impeller is fastened on a steel shaft of a flange-type double bearing. The design of the motors is B5.
The belt guard box consists of plastic material.
The plasticized PVC collars are provided to prevent the transmission of vibrations from the fan to the piping. They are fastened at the fan by means of a band clamp fitting of stainless steel.
The cleaning hole is provided for control and easy cleaning of the impeller.
The weather-protection hood of plastic material or steel above the drive is recommendable in case of an outdoor installation of the fan.

En los ventiladores radiales, el fluido pasa al rodete en dirección axial a través de un brazo de extracción, de una caja de ventilación o directamente desde el exterior. El rodete está formado por seis álabes curvados hacia atrás que reconducen el flujo a una dirección radial. Gran parte del proceso de conversión de la energía cinética del fluido en presión estática tiene lugar en el rodete.
El modelo estándar de este rodete de alto rendimiento está fabricado en prolipopileno e incorpora un buje de acero con protección anticorrosiva a través del cual se produce la transmisión del par motor. Todos los rodetes están equilibrados electrodinámicamente en dos planos a un grado de calidad de Q 6,3, de conformidad con la norma VDI 2060.
La voluta de plástico se ocupa de recoger y expulsar el fluido. Sus dimensiones están sujetas a los valores de tensión nominal requeridos. El modelo de voluta estándar incorpora un desagüe para la evacuación de condensados en su punto más bajo, que puede conectarse a una tubería de descarga en caso de producirse un exceso de condensación. La boca de entrada está atornillada, por lo que puede retirarse con facilidad, y se encuentra sellada a la pared trasera de la voluta mediante una junta. La voluta está asentada sobre un bastidor.
El bastidor tipo rack está fabricado en acero A-37 galvanizado. Incorpora unos taladros destinados a la inserción de los amortiguadores de vibraciones. Estos soportes anti-vibratorios sirven para aislar la carga dinámica de la base de la estructura.
Los ventiladores estándar están disponibles en dos modelos.
Diseño D El rodete está montado directamente en la flecha del motor. El motor tiene un diseño B5.
Diseño R La transmisión se realiza por correas en V. El rodete está montado en un eje de acero sobre dos cojinetes de brida.
La protección de la transmisión es de plástico.

Source text - English Several factors limit the ability of conventional generators to reduce output to accommodate renewable generation. These include the rate at which generators can change output, particularly in the evening when generators must increase output rapidly in a high PV scenario. This challenge is illustrated in Figure 3, a ramp duration curve for California covering an entire simulated year. This is the net load ramp rate (MW/hour) for all 8,760 hours in the simulated year ordered from high to low. In the no PV case, the maximum load ramp rate is about 5,000 MW/hour and a ramp rate of greater than 4,000 MW/hour occurs less than 100 hours in the simulated year. In the 2% PV case, the hourly ramps are actually smaller since PV effectively removes the peak demand (as seen in Figure 1). However at higher penetration, the ramp rates increase substantially, and in the 10% PV case the net load increases at more than 4,000 MW/hour more than 500 hours per year.

Este inconveniente queda ilustrado en la Figura 3, que refleja una curva de duración de carga para California a lo largo de todo un año simulado. Se muestra la velocidad de toma de carga (en MW/hora) para las 8.760 horas del año simulado, en orden decreciente. En el caso de ausencia de fotovoltaica («sin FV»), la velocidad de toma de carga alcanza su máximo nivel a unos 5.000 MW/hora y solo supera los 4.000 MW/hora en menos de 100 de las horas totales del año simulado. En el caso del 2% de fotovoltaica, las velocidades de toma de carga por hora son menores, ya que la fotovoltaica cubre eficazmente la demanda máxima (como veíamos en la Figura 1). Sin embargo, con niveles más altos de penetración, las velocidades de toma de carga aumentan sustancialmente y, en el caso del 10%, la carga neta se eleva hasta superar los 4.000 MW/hora en más de 500 horas al año.
