The present invention regards a cement-based photocatalytic composition, and the use thereof for obtaining water paints, in particular for outdoor applications.
Photocatalysis is a natural phenomenon that regards some substances, known as photocatalysts, which – when irradiated with light of suitable wavelength – are capable of catalyzing some chemical reactions. In particular, in the presence of air and light, oxidative processes are activated on a surface containing a photocatalytic substance that lead to the transformation and/or decomposition of organic and inorganic polluting substances (microbes, nitrogen oxides, polycondensate aromatic products, benzene, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, methanol, ethanol, benzene, ethylbenzene, methylbenzene, nitrogen monoxide and dioxide). Such polluting and/or toxic substances are transformed, through the photocatalysis process, into innocuous substances that can be washed away by rain water or via washing, such as sodium nitrate (NaNO3), calcium sulfate (CaSO4), calcium nitrate (Ca(NO3)2) and calcium carbonate (CaCO3).

A presente invenção diz respeito a uma composição fotocatalítica à base de cimento, e a utilização da mesma para a obtenção de tintas de água, em particular, para aplicações ao ar livre.
Fotocatálise é um fenômeno natural que se refere a algumas substâncias, conhecidas como fotocatalisadores, o que - quando irradiados com luz de comprimento de onda adequado - são capazes de catalisar algumas reações químicas. Em particular, na presença de ar e luz, processos oxidativos são ativados sobre uma superfície contendo uma substância fotocatalítica que conduz à transformação e/ou decomposição de substâncias poluentes orgânicas e inorgânicas (micróbios, óxidos de nitrogênio, policondensado de produtos aromáticos, benzeno, dióxido de enxofre, monóxido de carbono, formaldeído, acetaldeído, metanol, etanol, benzeno, etilbenzeno, metilbenzeno, monóxido e dióxido de nitrogênio). Tais substâncias poluentes e/ou tóxicas são transformadas, através do processo de fotocatálise, em substâncias inofensivas que podem ser lavadas pela água da chuva ou através de lavagem, tais como o nitrato de sódio (NaNO3), sulfato de cálcio (CaSO4), nitrato de cálcio (Ca (NO3)2) e carbonato de cálcio (CaCO3).
