It depends on... Oct 1, 2017

1) each individual translator
2) your definition of "most other professions"
3) and your definition of "tech savvy"

I haven't a clue.

On the assumption that this question is to do with computer skills, I would hazard a guess that translators are most 'resourceful' as they work to meet deadlines which are pretty much fixed in place and have to deal with computer problems in real time on their own, i.e. do not have the time to wait for answers from tech support, which can often take a long time.

My guess is as good as anyone else's, I suppose. I'm still at a loss as to what 'tech savvy

This one takes the cake… Oct 1, 2017

…as the dumbest poll question this year!

First, the unnecessarily marketing-presumptuous phrase “tech savvy.” Write like an adult, will you?

Second, several assumptions (mostly erroneous) are being made in asking this question, among them that translators work in such isolation that they're aware of only a few other professions that might use technology (???).

A good rule of thumb when speaking of and about translators would be that they're hungry for a challenge in the sense of a thoughtful question, a funny one, self-effacing humor, or a new topic to ponder. Not this inanity, please.

Ditto what everyone else has said so far

I'm more tech-savvy than my mum, but less so than my tech guy. My daughter is probably more au fait with online booking systems and things like that than I am, whereas she wouldn't be able to manage any of my CAT tools without a learning curve (LOL, Dragon understood that as "lemon curd")...

Wait a minute… maybe Nuance is on to something: suggesting zany recipes instead of misheard phrases.

Designers and programmers are more tech savvy than us, generally speaking.

No, not "most" Oct 4, 2017

We may be more tech savvy than many other professions, but certainly not "most". "Most" is too many in this case.
