Yes, of course | Dec 6, 2016 |
Why on earth should anyone else use or even touch my computer? A real anonymous run here though....
... although my husband can access it, luckily - he sorts out problems, checks updates and takes care of the technical side. He is better at that kind of thing than I am. But he knows all about confidentiality and not opening files that are not his business. Just as I can access his computer if I have to, and we use his Skype for family calls, but otherwise his computer is strictly his.

I’m the main and only regular user. The rest of my family (two daughters, two granddaughters) might use it very, very occasionally when on visit…

I can't imagine anything more personal than one's computer. Mine contains 25 years' worth of confidential information--my clients' and my own.

99,9% of the time, yes. However, I might let someone use it briefly, to check an email or something like that. And anyway, I have 2 other working PCs and 2 laptops they can use instead.
I live alone and am the only user of my computer - except occasionally when it's serviced by an "informaticien".

If anyone else needs to borrow a computer they can use my laptop.

Back in the day when I had one PC and tablets were unheard of and laptops for were for business users, I shared my computer with the family. I had to do things like set time limits for the kids. I had to do things like set time limits for the kids. Then as tablets and laptops became more accessible, I shared it with my wife for time. There are two problems when you do this: one is that the other user probably doesn't like certain ways that you set up the computer such as special hotkeys, shortkeys and automated processes. The other is that your computer will invariably act up when the other user is seated before it whereas when you yourself are using it, these things never happen. Now I have two computers: Big Box which is the one I am working on now, and 'Lil Box, which I access remotely and run some programs on so I don't clutter Big Box's Memory. Since 'Lil Box has fewer programs on it because I transferred some of them to Big Box, it works smoother and faster for my wife. ▲ Collapse
The only real person | Dec 6, 2016 |
Sometimes the fairies pop in during the night and do some of my work for me, which is nice. And I always leave it booted up over Christmas in case Santa needs to get in some last-minute shopping on Amazon. PS A couple of you website peeps from yesterday might want to reconsider the impression you're making on the world... Just sayin.

I have a super duper screen. The temptation is too great. I occasionally find that one of sons has sneaked onto it at a time that I am not using it. Perhaps it's a hint that they need upgrades ... Oops and I forgot ... I also have a techie who also services it.

I'm probably repeating previous posts, but I established a long time ago that the only person who touches my computer is me. It's a functional tool for work and for other important tasks.
