Медный от пыли диск висел в центре белесого, нечистого неба, ублюдочная тень корчилась и топорщилась под самыми подошвами, то серая и размытая, то вдруг словно оживающая, обретающая резкость очертаний, наливающаяся чернотой и тогда особенно уродливая. Никакой дороги здесь и в помине не было -- была бугристая серо-желтая сухая глина, растрескавшаяся, убитая, твердая, как камень, и до того голая, что совершенно не понятно было, откуда здесь берется такая масса пыли.
Ветер, слава богу, дул в спину. Где-то далеко позади он засасывал в себя неисчислимые тонны гнусной раскаленной пороши и с тупым упорством волочил ее вдоль выжженного солнцем выступа, зажатого между пропастью и Желтой стеной, то выбрасывая ее крутящимся протуберанцем до самого неба, то скручивая туго в гибкие, почти кокетливые, лебединые шеи смерчей, то просто катил клубящимся валом, а потом, вдруг остервенев, швырял колючую муку в спины, в волосы, хлестал, зверея, по мокрому от пота затылку, стегал по рукам, по ушам, набивал карманы, сыпал за шиворот…
Ничего здесь не было, давно уже ничего не было. А может быть, и никогда. Солнце, глина, ветер. Только иногда пронесется, крутясь и подпрыгивая кривляющимся скоморохом, колючий скелет куста, выдранного с корнем бог знает где позади. Ни капли воды, никаких признаков жизни. И только пыль, пыль, пыль, пыль…
Время от времени глина под ногами куда-то пропадала, и начиналось сплошное каменное крошево. Здесь все было раскалено, как в аду. То справа, то слева начинали выглядывать из клубов несущейся пыли гигантские обломки скал – седые, словно мукой припорошенные. Ветер и жара придавали им самые странные и неожиданные очертания, и было страшно, что они вот так – то появляются, то вновь исчезают, как призраки, словно играют в свои каменные прятки. The bastardly shade writhed and bristled under the very soles of our feet, sometimes appearing grey and washed out, but sometimes it was as if it suddenly came to life, taking on a sharpness of contours, filling itself up with blackness, at which moment it was particularly unsightly. There was no trace of any kind of a road here—just dry, uneven clay of a yellow-grey hue. The clay was cracked, dead, hard as a rock, and bare to such an extent that it was quite incomprehensible where such a massive amount of dust was coming from.
The wind, thank God, was at our backs. Somewhere far away behind us, it sucked up innumerable tonnes of wretched, scorching powder, and, with bullheaded persistence, dragged it along a sun-scorched buttress wedged between an abyss and the Yellow Wall, first throwing it up in a spinning protuberance to the very sky, then tightly twisting it into flexible, almost coquettish swans’ necks of dust whirls, and then simply rolling it in a huge, billowing wave; suddenly, it furiously hurled the itchy flour at our backs, in our hair, and, flying into a rage, whipped it at the back of our heads, wet from sweat, lashed it at our arms and ears, filled our pockets, and rained it down behind our collars...
There was nothing here, nor had there been anything for quite some time. But perhaps...there never was. Sun, clay, wind. Sometimes though, the thorny skeleton of a bush, ripped out at the root from God knows where, will shoot past, whirling and leaping, making a scene like a wandering minstrel-clown from a bygone era. Not a single drop of water, no signs of any kind of life whatsoever. Only dust, dust, endless dust...
From time to time, the clay under our feet disappeared and was replaced by a continuous mass of strewn rock debris. Everything here was red-hot, as in hell itself. First on the right and then on the left, giant pieces of rock—ash grey, as if powdered with flour—began to emerge from clouds of dust rushing past. The wind and heat had made their mark on them, carving them up into the most strange and unlikely forms. It was terrifying how they would sometimes appear and then suddenly disappear just like that—as if they were ghosts playing hide-and-seek. But then the scattered rock debris below us grew larger and larger and quite suddenly the flow of rocks terminated and the sound of clay once again rang out from under our boots.

В частности сильно искажала статистику практика искусственного ценообразования – завышения цен на государственные поставки и подряды.
По строительным подрядам завышение цен по разным данным составляло и составляет от 20 до 50%, по поставкам сложного технологического и потребительского оборудования, как выяснилось в процессе расследования огромных взяток, которые чиновники получали от поставок в Россию медицинской техники, (так называемого «дела о томографах») – до 200% от реальной цены.
Очень распространена была и практика частного искажения цен – на ввозимые товары - с целью уплаты более низких пошлин (в 2014 году, например, разница в оценке объемов экспорта Китая в Россию и импорта России из Китая составила около 10 млрд долларов или 0,5% ВВП), на оказанные услуги (с целью снижения НДС), на вывозимые товары с целью снижения выручки и неуплаты налогов на прибыль и пр.
Доля неформального бизнеса в России, которая в 90х годах по некоторым оценкам превышала весь размер официально зарегистрированного бизнеса, к 2013 – 2014 годам по официальным же данным сократилась до 10% экономики, но вопрос, как проводились официальные измерения неофициального бизнеса (частным образом оплачиваемые услуги, открытые рынки, вклад личных хозяйств, нелегальное потребление энергии и других ресурсов) – не известно.

But, in 2014, the Russian Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported that it fundamentally looked over the methodology and significantly increased the share of informal business in GDP. For this reason, as well as the inclusion of Crimea’s economy in the calculation, according to official data, GDP in 2014 grew, although by less than 1%.

Millions of years ago, the stolby (pillars) sprung up from offshoots of the Sayan Mountains. The gigantic volcanic rocks are chaotically scattered amid the dark green mountain taiga. Some of them are presently 90 metres high.
The first visits to Stolby were made by hunters, mushroom pickers and logging companies. Now, tourists, photographers and rock climbing enthusiasts from all over the world are coming here.
The name Stolby (pillars), as it's easy to guess, came from the peculiar form of the unusual rocks. Such fantastical rock formations cannot be found anywhere else in Eurasia. For thousands of years, the winds and rains have weathered the rocks, giving each one its own unique look.
“Don't worry if you don't have a guide for Stolby. Many passages can be identified by simple visual observations,” said Ivan Temerev, an experienced traveller and rock climber. “The frequently visited places at Stolby have been worn down to become white, whereas everything else, except for natural waterways, is overgrown with dark lichen. But, of course, it's a lot more interesting to climb the rocks and hike between the stolby (pillars) with a native-born stolbist (local rock climbing expert).”
You don't need to travel by helicopter or reindeer team to reach Stolby. Just a few kilometres from Krasnoyarsk, you'll find yourself in a place completely merged with nature.

Президент Федерации велосипедного спорта России и член руководящего комитета Международного союза велосипедистов Игорь Макаров прокомментировал "Газете.Ru" отзыв лицензии Мирового тура на 2013 год у велокоманды "Катюша". По словам Макарова, на место "Катюши" по непонятным причинам поставили другую команду, но борьба за возвращение лицензии продолжится.
Лишение "Катюши" лицензии Мирового тура на 2013 год вызвало серьезную озабоченность у первых лиц российского спорта. Так, в пятницу президент Олимпийского комитета России Александр Жуков пообещал оказать всестороннюю поддержку велокоманде.
Президент Федерации велосипедного спорта России и член руководящего комитета Международного союза велосипедистов Игорь Макаров, который также является основным спонсором "Катюши", рассказал "Газете.Ru" о своем видении ситуации. "Решение UCI стало для меня как гром среди очень ясного неба. Мы будем до конца добиваться возврата лицензии", - заявил Макаров.
- Каким образом?
- Всеми возможными способами. И судебными, и политическими, и экономическими. Мы, как федерация велосипедного спорта, сделали большой взнос. Я - член руководящего комитета, нас таких в мире всего 18 человек. Мы выполняем все требования, и тут такая непрозрачная система. 3 февраля в США состоится очередной съезд руководящего комитета. И я буду требовать реформирования системы.
Они, с одной стороны, говорят об открытости, о развитии велосипедного спорта, а с другой - я не могу получить ответ, за что у нас отозвали лицензию. Прошла уже неделя, но нам до сих пор ответили на этот вопрос.
- У вас же наверняка есть догадки, почему они так себя ведут?
- Конечно, есть.
- Можете рассказать о них?
- Одну из команд провели, по непонятным причинам поставили на наше место.
- Какую именно?
- Одну из команд. А именно - команду, которая не проходила в элиту. Ни по очкам, ни по каким-либо другим критериям.
- Но почему отняли лицензию именно у "Катюши"?
- Значит, привыкли, что Россия, так скажем, стерпит.
- Есть теория, что отзыв лицензии связан с тем, что Вячеслав Екимова теперь является генеральным менеджером "Катюши". А ведь он долгие годы был "правой рукой" лишенного ныне всех титулов Лэнса Армстронга...
- Знаю. "Дело Армстронга" сейчас широко рекламируется. Но вот, смотрите, сегодня Екимову вручили золотую медаль. Так если бы "дело Армстронга" было замешано в нашем случае, стали бы Екимова награждать? Мы будем бороться до победы!

The head of the Federation of Cycling Sport of Russia (FCSR), Igor Makarov, said he will be pursuing the return of Katusha Team’s World Tour license.

In an interview with Gazeta.ru, the president of the Federation of Cycling Sport of Russia and member of the management committee of the International Cycling Union (UCI) Igor Makarov commented on the revocation of Katusha Team’s 2013 World Tour license. According to Makarov, for unknown reasons another team was given Katusha’s place, but the struggle to return the license to the team continues.
The revocation of Katusha’s 2013 World Tour license was a source of serious concern for the heads of Russian sport. As such, on Friday, the president of the Russian Olympic Committee Aleksander Zhukov promised the cycling team his full support.
The president of the Federation of Cycling Sport of Russia and member of the management committee of the International Cycling Union Igor Makarov, who is also Katusha’s main sponsor, told Gazeta.ru about his view of the situation. “I regard the UCI’s decision to be like thunder in the middle of a very clear sky. We will pursue the return of the license until the bitter end,” said Makarov.
“How?”
“In every possible way: using legal, political and economic methods. As a cycling federation, we have made a large contribution. There are only 18 members of the management committee and I am one of them. We fulfill all the system’s requirements but the system does not appear to be transparent.
The management committee’s next meeting will be on February 3rd in the USA. I will demand reforms to the system.
On the one hand they talk about openness and about the development of the sport of cycling, yet on the other hand I haven’t received an answer as to why they took the license away from us. A week has already passed and I have not received an answer to this question.”
“You most likely have some ideas about why they are acting this way.”
“Of course I do.”
“Can you tell us about them?”
“One of the teams they approved, was, for unknown reasons, given our place.”
“Which one exactly?”

“There is a theory that the license was revoked in connection with the fact that Vyacheslav Ekimov is now the general manager of Katusha. For many years he was the right-hand man for Lance Armstrong, who has now been stripped of all titles.”
“I know. The Armstrong affair is receiving a lot of press now. You see, Ekimov was awarded a gold medal today. So if the Armstrong affair has become mixed up in our situation, do you think they would have given Ekimov an award? We will continue to fight until we have achieved our goal!”

Всероссийская ассоциация для больных муковисцидозом опубликовала Национальный консенсус по муковисцидозу. Этот документ определяет стандарты диагностики и лечения муковисцидоза в России.
Над его созданием три года работала группа из 46 врачей разных специальностей. В ноябре 2016 года консенсус был рассмотрен ведущими экспертами по муковисцидозу из разных городов России и принят в качестве основного рекомендательного документа для врачей, наблюдающих пациентов с этим редким заболеванием.
В печатном виде документ будет издан ограниченным тиражом при финансовом участии Благотворительного фонда "Острова".
Профессор Елена Ивановна Кондратьева, руководитель Российского центра муковисцидоза, заведующая научно-клиническим отделом муковисцидоза ФГБНУ «Медико-генетический научный центр», дала интервью Медицинскому Порталу о важности таких согласительных документов для российского врачебного сообщества, а также о перспективах лечения больных муковисцидозом в нашей стране.
"Национальный консенсус, в отличие от прежних документов, объединил врачей разных специальностей, микробиологов и генетиков. Мы постарались прописать все аспекты, связанные с болезнью — от того, как вести себя с больным ребенком дома до требований к трансплантации легких и печени (в России уже успешно провели 26 таких операций — 20 трансплантаций легких и шесть печени). Translation - English A National Consensus on cystic fibrosis was adopted in Russia
The Russian association for cystic fibrosis patients published a national consensus on cystic fibrosis. This document specifies standards for the diagnosis and treatment of cystic fibrosis in Russia.
A group of 46 doctors from various fields of medicine worked for three years to create it. In November 2016, the consensus was reviewed by the leading experts on cystic fibrosis from many cities of Russia and it was adopted as the main advisory document for doctors caring for patients with this rare disease.
The document will be issued in print form during a limited print run made possible with the financial support of the Ostrova Charitable Foundation.
Professor Yelena Kondratyeva, head of the Russian Center for Cystic Fibrosis and head of the scientific-clinical cystic fibrosis division of the medico-genetic scientific center, talked about the importance of these advisory documents for the Russian medical community as well as the prospects of treating cystic fibrosis patients in Russia during an interview she had with a medical portal.
“Unlike previous documents, the National Consensus united microbiologists, geneticists and doctors from various fields of medicine. We tried to describe all the aspects associated with this disease—everything from how to treat a sick child at home to the requirements for lung and liver transplants (there have already been 26 of these operations in Russia so far: 20 lung transplants and six liver transplants). And now we hope that in Russia there will be a consistent approach to patient care. Of course, we would really be glad if Russian patients had access to the same patient care that is already available in Europe, where over half of all patients are adults (so far in Russia only one third of patients are adults).”

Personal Approach
I take a very personal approach to your projects, essentially becoming part of your team. I ask questions to determine the intended purpose of the translation (i.e. why was the text chosen to be translated and what role will it play in your company's success). Knowing how the text will be used is important when deciding how certain words and phrases are translated. For example, if it is a promotional text, you can be sure that the translation will be compelling and persuasive. I am very creative but I also pay attention to even the smallest details. The end result are translations that are true reflections of the original Russian but are also highly expressive and naturally flowing in my native English.
Mission
My goal is that your Russian texts will become easily accessible to English speakers, who will perceive these translations as if they were originally written in English. When you entrust your texts to my care, you can be sure that they are in good hands. You will be proud to display my final translation as the English version of your website or show off creative printed materials (brochures, etc.) that are oriented towards a global audience.
Background/Education
My education includes an Advanced Degree in Economics and Russian Studies from the University of Manitoba (Canada), study as part of a Master's program in World Economics in St. Petersburg, Russia and the Level 3 Certificate in the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL). My experience of living and studying in Russia enabled me to become fluent in Russian and obtain in-depth knowledge of Russian culture, traditions, and society.
