The best among them is the most in need of him, while the one who is not from his clan is the closet
ابو طالب (رضي الله عنه) يخاطب قريش هنا لذا فأن كلمة "ابعدهم" تعني الذي ليس من اقرباء الرسول صلى الله تعالى عليه وسلم اي ليس من قريش
The best among them is the most in need of him, while the one who is not from his clan (i.e. relatives or Quraish) is the closet to him.

The greatest of them is the one who needs Him most and the farthest of them is the most favoured.
The full translation should be something like this: The greatest of them in the matter is the one who needs Him ( God) most. And the farthest of them from it ( the matter) is the most favored by Him.

Abdelmonem Samir
: Are you sure it is God? because I'm sure it is Mohammed (PBUH). And I think "أعظمهم إليه" has got more than "the greatest".The Keyword is "إليه". Is it "to him" or something else?

: Yes Abdelmonem you are right, it is about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and not God. The above saying is of Abu Talib when he asked Qurash to be loyal to the Prophet.

However, the most significant number are most in need thereof, while the farthest away are fortunate
I had to do away with some of the articles, but I think you should have brokent the phrase up into two, so we can give you the right full answer. Follow Fuad's suggestion to the letter.
