David Hollywood
: both your suggestions are super and I would add "you've saved my life" or much freer "that's a relief"

Thanks David. I like "that's a relief", far more British understatement about it, but perhaps somewhat lacking in dramatic impact :D

Jennifer Levey
: I would give an agree to a much more liberal, and natural, translation, such as David's 'that's a relief'.

oh really? That's a relief is a bit everyday to translate this expression in my opinion. As in "The dinner didn't burn after all" "That's a relief!" :D

fionn
: I'm with your 2nd choice, sarahca, "you've given my life back" (or "you gave me my life back") exactly captures the drama of the conversation.

You're a life saver!
In my opinion the best translation of "me devolviste la vida" would be to use the idiomatic phrase, "you're a life saver!"
Of course a literal translation is great, but the dynamic translation that would be closest to the literal translation is the one I mentioned.

Example sentence:
The little girl excitedly ran up to her father, the car keys dangling from her hands. "Look what I found Daddy!" "You're a life saver!" he says with relief.

: Yes, but it not in context of a girl saying to her father that she's not going to marry someone.
