Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Dylan J Hartmann

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Patrick Fitzsimons Feb 27, 2017:
Thanks for the input guys. While I agree that a translation pointing to the video as a product of the Dept may be most suitable in this context, I agree with Peter that the primary meaning of the word งานเผยแพร่ is "publicity", which is not directly communicated by either "publication" or "production" (there are more direct ways to write "production" in Thai). I would add a concrete noun, though: how about "publicity material". More context is also welcome.
Dylan J Hartmann Feb 27, 2017:
Agreed More context is needed. In that sense, "production" would be the best term when referring to the video credits.
Peter Ross Feb 26, 2017:
งานเผยแพร่ I read งานเผยแพร่ as one word. The space is an error. The meaning of this word to me is "publicity". For me, more context is needed. A standard English phrase like "Publication of the (Dept)" is correct in one sense, but do we refer to movies as publications in English? A "publication" is also not the same as "publicity" despite the similarity in form in English, though that might be the nearest in this context.

Event

งาน can either mean work or event, and event seems the most likely here—as in "Fine Arts Department publicity event"
Peer comment(s):

disagree Dylan J Hartmann : While I agree with your def. of "งาน", as this is from the 'credits' to a video, it's stating that it is a published work, or publication, of the Fine Arts Dept.

disagree Theresa Somsri : The term "งานประชาสัมพันธ์" is more often used for "publicity event" and the term appears in video credits, so the translation of "งาน" as "event" does not seem suitable.

Production

The video was made as a "production" of the Fine Arts Department.
Peer comment(s):

agree Theresa Somsri : "Production" is most suitable for the context, which (as stated) translates as "This video is a published work of the Fine Arts Department". "งานเผยแพร่" is rarely used to describe an actual event, as "งานประชาสัมพันธ์" is usually preferred.
