@jethro No problem and thank you for getting back. As to the meaning of '(terug)vorderingen' in your specific context (which I understand to be, among other things, about infringement of intellectual property rights), I'd say this should be read as referring to both tortious claims as well as 'restitutionary claims' (i.e. claims for restitution of the profits realized by the infringer). Translating 'terugvorderingen' as 'claims for refunds' seems out of context here.
jethro (asker) Nov 29, 2019:
Well, I am sorry for the lack of context, Kitty. Actually, the General Purchasing conditions you discovered (the one I used) was very similar if not identical in parts to the text I was translating. I also found another one that was similar/identical the one I was doing and their translation of the term in question was even less feasible so I plumped for the version you found. In fact the full sentence was the same as in the purchasing conditions you discovered. Thanks for taking the trouble, Kitty.
Kitty Brussaard Nov 28, 2019:
PS. It would have been helpful if you'd given us a little bit more context information and/or at the very least the full sentence, especially given that this is a legal terminology query.
Kitty Brussaard Nov 28, 2019:
The translation you found seems to be related to scenarios where "(...) the intellectual property rights of a third party are infringed, company secrets are breached and/or unfair commercial practices are carried out (...)". See Art. 9 of https://www.astrasweets.com/images/General-Purchase-Conditio... Are you sure your context is about the same type of scenarios? If so, I'm not sure at all if 'claims for refunds' is a correct translation for 'terugvorderingen' here.
Tina Vonhof (X) Nov 28, 2019:
Yes, that sounds correct.
jethro (asker) Nov 25, 2019:
Well, I finally found one translation of this as: indemnify xagainst all third-party claims, claims for refunds or sanctions in this respect. Does that sound right?
