و تزود السيارات بفرامل الأقراص أو فرامل الكماشة و التى تتركب من طنبورة الفرملة الدائرة مع مجموعة العجل ومن عضو على شكل فك يحيط بجزء من الطنبورة ( القرص ) بشكل منحنى و يوجد بينه و بين وجهى القرص الدائر قطاعات من أقراص مثبت عليها تيل فرامل يمكن ضغطها على وجهى القرص و قد انتشر استخدام هذا النوع من الفرامل خاصة على العجل الأمامى لما له من مميزات أهمها :
-تبرد فرامل الأقراص بشكل جيد بسبب تركيبها المفتوح و لهذا فإنها لا تتعرض لارتفاع درجة الحرارة الناتجة عن الاحتكاك .

An alternative to splines is a keyway and key, though splines provide a longer fatigue life, and can carry significantly greater torques for the size.[2]
