Hop-On Hop-Off Besichtigungstour

type of tour
I think a further Erklärung of Anika's explanation is needed --
Hop-on hop-off is not just the name of a tour, but actually describes a particular type of tour service. Namely, one where you buy a single ticket (usually valid for a day, although there is a hop-on hop-off bus that runs around Australia, for example - it's called Oz Experience, and you can buy a ticket valid for weeks or months), and you can 'hop-on' (einsteigen) or 'hop-off' (aussteigen) whenever you wish. The bus usually runs on a circular route, so you can pick it up again when it comes back around (often there is more than one bus, also). This allows you to get off at particular points of interest and stay as long as you like, giving much more freedom than the traditional guided tour.
good luck!
