German to English Tech/Engineering Telecom(munications) IT
From a technical specification for an Ethernet aggregate platform.

Policing
[5] Ein Two-Rate-Three-Color-Marker gemäß RFC 2698 muss pro Policer implementiert sein. *Basierend auf einer Umcolorierung eine präferiertes Verwerfen dieser Verkehre durchgeführt werden*. Dieser Mechanismus ist detailliert zu beschreiben.

I don't understand the second sentence.f An initial translation attempt yielded: " This rejection of communication/traffic is executed based on a preferred recoloring rejection." A word seems to be missing.

Richard Stephen Jun 28, 2009:
No wonder you can't understand the sentence - it doesn't have a verb! Then in your version of the translation you've got recoloring modifying rejection - and rejection as the object of 'based on' - whereby rejection is the subject. First you need to check with your client, what verb belongs in the sentence - probably some auxiliary verb like 'must' or 'can' - and then we can try to translate it.

Does not make sense in German Probably a translation from a non-native speaker of German. The only thing I can think of is that some color coding is to be applied for easier reference. Maybe something like: "Due to the marking/flagging the (failed? for Verwerfen) communication traffic in the defined/preferred color. Maybe errors/failed attempts are marked in red...

German term (edited): Basierend usw. (complete sentence)

The second sentence is indeed a mess. "eine praeferirtes Verwerfen"?
Maybe "kann ein praeferiertes Verwerfen" - a preferred rejection of these traffic conditions can be executed as a result of the recoloring process.

I must admit, though, not really quite sure what any of this means. However, this link might help:
