Discussion

Yes, it is Melanthon.
Magczer (asker) Sep 1, 2005:
Actually, I have the English version (which I am supposed to proofread) but something is wrong here, so I asked the author for her explanation. She wrote it in Latin.
The text is as follows:
However, for the purpose of proving this hypothesis convincingly, it is necessary to take onboard the main difference (differentia) between painting and speech, which I mentioned in general terms while analyzing the structure of the consequence drawn from the similar, presented in Erotemata.
Anne Grimes Sep 1, 2005:
Can you give some more of the context, please?

Is that Melanthon's Erotemata?
He was a Germam scholar who brought back - or at least tried to - aristotilean metaphysics, and along with it "syllogism", which had been left out by humanist thinking and philosophy.
"Consequentia a simili" is itself a self-centered, tautologic syllogism:
If A is like B and B is like A (similarity), then (consequence) A and B share the same features.

agree Vicky Papaprodromou : Cheers from Aristotle's neighbourhood. :-)//I finally managed to persuade all clients that I need holidays, too, so I was out shopping. I am leaving for Chalkidiki (Aristotle's homeland) on Sunday.:-)
