Displaying whitespace characters in DVX2 Thread poster: Stanislav Pokorny
|
Hello everyone, I've decided to go for DVX2 Pro as my secondary CAT tool. Now my question may sound stupid, but I have found an answer neither in the Help, nor in the PDF manual: how do you display whitespace characters in the editor? Thank you!

Hi Stanislav, This feature is requested by some of the users but I don't use that feature in other CAT tools as well. May I ask, why do you need it? As a temporary solution you can use some special fonts available at the Files section of Deja Vu Yahoo Group http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/dejavu-l/files/Fonts/ HTH, ... Hi Selcuk, thank you very much for your reply. Why I need whitespace characters: - better representation of spaces between words and around tags - graphical representation of special characters that I work a lot with, such as optional hyphens, non-breakable spaces, soft returns etc. - I am simply used to having whitespace characters visible. Thank you for the link. I will check what others know about this once my membership has been approved.

Optional hyphens should be represented as codes, for Word documents you can use CodeZapper to remove them when importing. I am not sure if those special fonts display non-breakable spaces. AFAIR in DVX1 it was possible. Tabs are often represented as codes, but not in all file formats. AFAIR Trados TTX and SDLXLIFF files may contain tabs. You can use Ctrl+Shift+I to insert a tab. I normally use some SQL filters to catch such characters. For example: Source segments with nonbreaking space (U+00A0) Source LIKE "* *"
Please insert a nonbreaking space between two stars. Source or Target segments with curly apostrophes or quotation marks (‘ ’ ´ “ ”) Source LIKE "*‘*" OR Source LIKE "*’*" OR Source LIKE "*´*" OR Source LIKE "*“*" OR Source LIKE "*”*" OR Target_XXXX LIKE "*‘*" OR Target_XXXX LIKE "*’*" OR Target_XXXX LIKE "*´*" OR Target_XXXX LIKE "*“*" OR Target_XXXX LIKE "*”*"
Source or Target segments with tabs Source LIKE "* *" OR Target_XXXX LIKE "* *"
Please insert a tab between two stars.

Hi Selcuk, thanks again for the extensive information. I'll see what I can dig up in the Yahoo Group, as I understand there are many more examples of SQL queries, scripts etc.

Search in Google site:http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/dejavu-l/ "SQL" The good thing is that you can store all SQL filters and commands in DVX2.

I believe DVX2 has many advantages over other tools; yet may require a little more time to get used to. TBH, I am impressed by the way the DM+AutoWrite feature works. Dynamic and very, very accurate too!

Now I just have to learn how to use them. Anyway, your descriptions are very clear and self-explanatory. A very good job, one would say.

Hi Stanislav, I'm not the author of this file, I've downloaded it years ago and added some useful comments and commands. I guess this file has initially been compiled by a group of Atril people. Very helpful, I agree. Mike

TMX import is easy but I cannot say it for your Multiterm bases. In case of 1:1 termlists it is easy as well, but if your termbase includes additional fields, then tab exported files will be almost useless.

Hi Selcuk, TMX is clear enough. DVX2 seems to support TBX, but I haven't tried any imports yet. I think I'll be playing more with DVX2 over the weekend. My termbases indeed contain a number of descriptive fields and picklists.
