buongiorno a tutti, sto traducendo un libro su londra e in questo capitolo parla della peste. Non saprei proprio come tradurre faggots, mi è stato detto che è la parola estesa di fag (omosessuale in senso dispregiativo o sigaretta)ma non riesco a riferirla a dei bambini.

Invio un pò di contesto: Some of the bodies `were wrapt up in linen sheets, so loose that what covering they had fell from them in the shooting out of the cart'. Lasciando stare i riferimenti omo, che al tempo della peste venivano chiamato con altri nomi, ch è stato in Scozia conosce questa (specialità) fatta con lo stomaco di pecora farcito con carne e spezie. (e chi più ne ha più ne mette) provate su Google a chiedere : faggot food, per evitare gli altri significati.
Io penso che con umore macabro e per alleviare il suo lavoro tristissimo, il carrettiere si sia messo a urlare "faggots, faggots" che io ho tradotto come "salsicciotti" non conoscendo un corrispondente in italiano che usi gli stessi ingredienti. I 6 pence chiesti corrispondevano al mezzo scellino di una volta.
Dei cadaveri sarebbero stati davvero inutili come combustibile e manca l'umorismo (nero).

The term faggot or fagot, meaning bundle of sticks, shows up around 1300 in English. It almost certainly came from Old French, possibly going back to Greek phakelos. Since those bundles of sticks were mainly used for fires, it's not surprising that the term came to mean burning sticks. Then there was that nasty business in medieval times where heretics were burned at the stake. Some later cites indicate heretics who repented and were spared a fiery death had to wear a picture of a faggot on their sleeve to show what might have been their fate.

"Fag" was also a term used for a junior boy who acted as a servant for a senior boy at Eton College, near Eton, Berkshire, and other British public schools. This practice, known as "fagging", was ended in the 1970s.
