Discussion

Pavel Blann Mar 1, 2007:
OK, that's settled then. As for "háj", it could also be "shaw" [BR, old, poet.], "garden", "planting", or "plantation".
Maria Chmelarova Feb 28, 2007:
Yes Paul, it is a difference between ..., I just try to bring some other ideas...
Pavel Blann Feb 28, 2007:
You may be right with rye ~ rež (žito seté)
but there is a size difference between woods/greenwoods (large areas) and groves (small areas).
Maria Chmelarova Feb 28, 2007:
rez= rež > rye.....
háj, háje > woods, greenwoods in lower lands, not in mountains

you are a little one yet, my little darling, hush, hush, hush, a green grove

"háj, háj, háj" may be "haj, haj, haj" and come from "hajej" (hushabye)

thanks for your input but in Czech, háj (hájek) ~ grove, stromoví (zelený [listnatý] les) ~ greenwood
