I have used 'metal blanks', as there are a number of references, but is there a a specific expression for these in the impact extrusion manufacturing process?

Impact extrusion is a manufacturing process similar to extrusion and drawing by which products are made with a metal slug. The slug is pressed at a high velocity with extreme force into a die/mold by a punch.

Process Flow
Quality has its origin: You can only manufacture your products to be technically flawless and economically efficient with high-quality "slugs".
Our process is generally as follows:
Primary and secondary aluminum are melted.
After that treatment the molten aluminum then is casted into a strip. Following that the strip is rolled using hot and cold rolling in order to achieve the desired slug thickness.
The desired slug shapes are punched out of the finished strip.
The slugs are heat treated in annealing oven for further processing by the customer. A rough slug surface is equally important, which is ensured by means of shot blasting or tumbling.
Larger sized slugs are sawn from extruded round bars.
