"Conversion" It probably is "conversion" - making you aware of the brand, capturing your attention then 'converting' you to the brand (you being the customer).

I read that you want to know if “conversion” is a term of marketing. Yes! Yes!. It is a marketing term.

Here I have the definition of “conversion” in the Internet marketing and my analysis about your case.

I am coping some paragraphs from an article written by Marziah Karch in About.com Guide that explains what “conversion” is in the new Internet marketing.

DEFINITION:

“Definition: Conversion is an Internet marking term. If you’re creating ad-sponsored content on the Web, the money-making goal for both you and your advertisers is to convert casual readers into people who take some sort of profitable action.

For content providers, the goal is generally to convert lower paying passive views into higher paying clicks on ads without resorting to click fraud. For advertisers, the goal is to convert clicks into actual sales. So depending on the context, conversions could refer to ad clicks, sales, or some other desired action like expanding an ad or playing an advertiser’s video or game.

The conversion rate is the percentage of people who perform the desired action. Internet marketers will sometimes talk of techniques to drive conversions, meaning that they want to improve the conversion rate or just increase overall traffic with the idea that higher traffic will naturally create more conversions. “

MY ANALYSIS:

In other way, today through the ad-sponsored content posted on the Web, the writer of the content and the advertisers want to “convert” readers of the article or story in buyers of the products that the advertisers are selling.

Frequently, they try to "convert" causal readers that feel EMOTIONAL CONNECTION with the story and the advice that the writer offers.

This kind of “conversion” is similar to the conversion process that some religious groups pursue when they advice or help to individuals with emotional, economical or health problems, with the secret intention to convert to these people and their families to a new religion (or church).

In Internet, the best sample of the technique of “conversion” is Adsense of Google. These Internet company through the services of Adsense links writers and editors of Internet blog pages with advertisers that pursue to “convert” to the readers of theses pages.

Facebook and other social networks use similar conversion process. Did you never ask yourself why Google and Facebook make a lot of revenues with free services of pages of information?
