Depending on how they do that, it may contravene KudoZ rules 3.4, 3.6 and 3.7. One tactic in your war would be to complain to a moderator about any rules being broken. You can find the rules here: http://www.proz.com/?sp=siterules&mode=show&category=kudoz_answ If I report them every time they break these rules, Proz has to assign a private moderator to me. I once gave "disagree" to complete nonsense and was admonished that this was "not done" (because I had proposed an answer myself). Some people play KudoZ very fiercely, for the sake of competition. I don't think this is the purpose - for me, the purpose is to help others, while learning new things in the process. Even on questions where I have proposed an answer, if somebody else comes up with a better one later, I give them "agree". The "better of faster" question - the trouble is, there are often many people who know the right answer, and you have to be fast to provide it first. ▲ Collapse | | | Samuel Murray Nizozemsko Local time: 22:08 Člen (2006) angličtina -> afrikánština + ...

A complete nonsense deserves a "disagree," but synonymous doesn't, specially if I am working in the field and they are not. I have a new Guinness Record of 3 disagrees in 20 days from the same gang for their boss complete nonsense, but I managed them very well I guess. To be the faster AND better answer, you will need to throw all your fixed clients behind your back, and keep staring to the Kudoz page. Really? No way. How do they find time to do this? | | | Doaa Alnajjar Kanada Local time: 14:08 arabština -> angličtina + ... AUTOR TÉMATU No, you are not :) | Oct 21, 2013 |

You know exactly whom I am speaking about, do not play fool I mean you have been there like years, you are that close to the first place (only 600 points or so away) and I have to admit you are playing in a fair, honest way. HOW DID YOU DO THIS? Any tactics? Any verses to read, something to eat...whatever? Really, how did you managed the gangs out there up to the second place? As a member in my pairs directory, I defiantly appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance. | | | points first, membership later | Oct 21, 2013 |
I took the opposite approach. In February I had one day without work and I thought it might be best to become a member. First, though, I decided I needed points to raise my profile. I have now reached my target of an established top 10 place (which I take to be 20 points ahead of tenth place) in both of my language pairs. However, I am dithering whether to become a member because a) apart from that one day in February I remain overwhelmed with work, and b) new agencies have started approaching me anyway on the basis of my KudoZ ranking. I’ll probably join to test the waters but, having seen others give up their membership, I’m not too sure of the benefits. As for “gangs”, I don’t think they exist in my pairings, but I did start to realize (the bleeding obvious) that some people think like me, others don’t, which is why certain patterns may develop – for example, I probably give certain individuals lots of “agrees”, which may appear to be blatant “partisanship” (for want of a better word), when actually we simply share similar thought processes. Then again, there are people I wouldn’t “disagree” with or “neutralize” because from experience I know they’ll turn rabid. Takes all sorts. It’s just like any community, I guess. Oh, and one of the disadvantages of not being a member is that it takes yonks for my forum posts to be approved (so you’ll get this tomorrow and it’ll be out of date). Hence I rarely contribute to forums. ▲ Collapse | | | Tom in London Velká Británie Local time: 21:08 Člen (2008) italština -> angličtina Sorry to hear that | Oct 21, 2013 |

I have noticed a bit of it myself in my own language pair, but at a low level and not the seemingly very serious, intense, disruptive level described in the other posts here. I don't think a new member would have any chance of beating that, unless they implement some serious black-hat tactics. What do you think? In such situations a lot depends on the Moderators. I would expect the Moderators to keep an eye on things like this.

I think this has something to do with posting easy question trying to tempt fresh answerers (like me) to answer it and then either close the question without grading or giving you 2 points max.
