French term or phrase: boîtes de cisaillement en redans
Good morning,

I am looking for help to understand, and translate, the last sentence of the passage below. It relates to the construction of an arch-gravity dam:

>

I am unclear as to what the “boîtes de cisaillement en redans” are and what the last bit of the sentence is all about.
According to https://books.google.co.uk/books?isbn=2729707174, “redans” and “boîtes de cisaillement” could be synonymous (« Les surfaces de joints peuvent comporter des redans (ou ‘boîtes de cisaillement’) destinés à améliorer le monolithisme du barrage et reprendre les efforts de cisaillement »).
As “shear box” is the term for a piece of testing equipment, I don’t think sure I can use that here.

Any assistance gratefully received!

Thanks
David
