French term

calottes

French to English Other Mining & Minerals / Gems Jewellery design/production
A term in a description of producing a pearl and diamond necklace:
I've got as far as finding that "calotte" can be the outer, visible, possibly decorative side of a snap fastener, but no idea if there is a link with this, probably not! Any ideas?

bead cap /calotte

You can keep calotte in English. Specialists will know what it means, but if you want to use an 'English' term, bead cap is what you need.

agree Bourth (X) : With "bead cap" ("pearl cap" here?). I think a "calotte" is different in English, being an end fitting.

Thank you, Bourth. 'Perles' is usually translated 'beads' in jewellery, except in the case of actual pearls, and even then I think 'bead cap' is used. Don't handle many pearl and diamond necklaces, to tell you the truth :-)
