See explanation Explanation: حزيران is used in north, especially Lebanon and Syria. Egypt, Sudan, and the Estern Arab countries use يونيو. In Egypt, يونيه is used as well. In the West, i.e. Morroco, Tunisia, etc., francoarab names, derived from the French names of the months, are used. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 13 mins (2006-06-08 19:08:46 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Recently, it became conventional to use both names in official documents, journalism, and news broadcasting. Anyway, here is a list of all the names of months used in Arabia. http://www.sql-und-xml.de/server-daten/culture-info/ar.html حزيران is the month in the Babylonian calendar equivalent to the Gregorian 'June'. I have written a small paper before on the matter, wxplaining the influence of the Babylonian Calendar on the Hebrew Calendar. The site is down, unfortunately. |
