"Documented distress features, if encountered, included crack aperture width, texture, persistence, and trace. These particular properties describe the separation, smoothness, length and linearity of cracks, respectively. Additionally, observations were made regarding weathering characteristics, the presence of efflorescence, mortar-pointing age relative to the structure, cracked or broken windows, racking of door or window frames, voids in masonry, and other signs of distress, if encountered."

caractéristiques de désordres
"Distress" occurs as a result of the failure of a structure to meet the stresses and weathering to which it is subjected. Therefore, it is not "défauts", but "désordres". Use of the wrong sort of paint would be a defect or "défaut", while the correct sort of paint that flakes off when exposed to conditions it should withstand is "distress" or "désordre".
