This is part of a PPT presentation on paint defects in the automotive industry. As it's a PPT, context is somewhat lacking. The slides state the fault, the possible causes and the consequences. This one is just titled 'Grains'. The description is 'Surface rugueuse et irrégulière. Does anyone have any experience with paints? Similar presentations I've seen in English have sections on 'trapped dirt', but I'm not sure if this is the correct term.

GRAINS
Description
DIRT INCLUSIONS
Also known as: bits, dirt in paint, seed, GRAINS, specks, spikes, grits
Description
A surface with this defect will show particles of different sizes deposited in the primer or color.
Origin and Potential Causes:
• Various types of contamination typically introduced during the application or drying process.
• Static charge on surface of vehicle. This condition helps the attraction of dust.
• DUST AND DIRT from dry sanding, cloths, etc.
• Use of poor quality masking paper.
• Tack rag was not used before spraying, or not immediately before. • Inadequate filtration of air.
