Swedish term

anläggande av blodtomt fält

Swedish to English Medical Medical (general)
In a report on prosthesis surgery.

"Första dosen påbörjas 45 till 30 minuter före operationsstart eller anläggande av blodtomt fält."

I have translated this as "application of a tourniquet" but I am wondering if I should translate this literally as "creation of a bloodless area" in case there is some other process for removing blood from a limb without a tourniquet.

Det är sällan bra att bli väldigt specifik när källtexten inte är det.

agree Cynthia Coan : I agree completely with what Nils says about not being more specific when translating than the source text is.

More on blood-free fields

In surgery it's important not only to remove blood from the area of focus but also to take steps to prevent excess blood flow from occurring in the first place. Among other things, drugs and/or other chemical agents can play a role in this.
