Born in São Paulo, Brazil, I grew up in a bilingual environment, learning to speak in German and Brazilian Portuguese. Since my mother was from Switzerland, maybe even bi-and-a-half-lingual with Swiss-German as well :) .
For 9 years, I went to a Waldorf school, where some classes were taught in German and others in Brazilian Portuguese. Through all this time we also had a class to learn English, but unfortunately the teacher wasn't very good. Then I spent one year in Switzerland going to a school here, where I had my first very good English teacher. After that, back in São Paulo to a Swiss school, again with classes taught in German and Brazilian Portuguese, this time with another very good English teacher and also French. From this high school I received a diploma as Technician in Translation and Interpretation.
In 1983 I got a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Industrial Engineering from the Faculdade de Engenharia Industrial - FEI, in the city of São Bernardo do Campo.
In 1984 I moved to Switzerland and lived and worked here until 1997 when I returned to Brazil.
From 2015 to 2017 I lived in Auroville, India.
Since 2017 I'm living in Switzerland again.
My first experience with translations was gained during an internship at BBC in Baden, Switzerland, in 1981. I did it as a side gig, translating technical documents from German to Portuguese. And learned at this point that Portuguese from Portugal is very different from the one spoken in Brazil :)
The second experience was in 1998 or 1999, when I worked for some months for a German translation company with a subsidiary in São Paulo. The work was to translate technical documents from German to Portuguese for the automotive industry using Wordfast.
Now (beginning of 2023) I'm rebooting my translator activities and want to do it professionally as a freelancer on a part-time basis. Looking forward to doing interesting projects :)
