Sometimes, benign (noncancerous) growths called adenomas appear on one or more of a person's parathyroid glands. The cause of most parathyroid adenomas is unknown. However, about 10 percent are thought to be hereditary. Radiation exposure of the head and neck also may increase the risk of adenomas (as in the people who were exposed to the atomic bomb in Hiroshima).
Adenomas cause the parathyroid gland to make more parathyroid hormone than the body needs, a condition called primary hyperparathyroidism. Too much parathyroid hormone upsets the body's normal calcium balance, which increases the amount of calcium in the blood stream. A similar but less common condition, called secondary hyperparathyroidism, can occur in patients with chronic kidney failure
Many symptoms may be present in the case of neuropathic pain. These symptoms include:
• Spontaneous pain (pain that comes without stimulation): Shooting, burning, stabbing, or electric shock-like pain; tingling, numbness, or a “pins and
needles” feeling
• Evoked pain: Pain brought on by normally non-painful stimuli such as cold, gentle brushing against the skin, pressure, etc. This is called allodynia. An unpleasant, abnormal sensation whether spontaneous or evoked (dysesthesia)
• Emotional problems due to disturbed sleep and pain
How is neuropathic pain treated?
Multimodal therapy (including medicines, physical therapy, psychological treatment, and sometimes surgery) is usually required to treat neuropathic pain.
Medicines commonly prescribed for neuropathic pain include anti-seizure drugs such as Neurontin®, Lyrica®, Topamax®, Tegretol®, and Lamictal®. Doctors also prescribe antidepressants such as Elavil®, Pamelor®, Effexor®, and Cymbalta®. A doctor’s prescription for anti-seizure drugs or antidepressants does not mean you have seizures or are depressed.
A topical patch (Lidocaine® or Capsaicin®) or a cream or ointment can be used on the painful area. Opioid analgesics can provide some relief. However, they generally are less effective in treating neuropathic pain. Negative effects may prevent their long-term use.
The pain can also be treated with nerve blocks given by pain specialists, including injections of steroids, local anesthetics, or other medicines into the affected nerves.
Neuropathic pain that has not responded to the therapies mentioned above can be treated with spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, and brain stimulation.

Composition:
46,7% Trisodium Citrate in water. The XXX is delivered sterile and supplied as a clear solution. The pH is adjusted to approximately 6,7. Aseptic technique must be maintained at all times. Each single-use vial contains 5 mL.
Prescription:
XXX is indicated as a catheter lock solution to prevent coagulation of the blood and infection in any type of intravenous catheter.
Performance:
Trisodium Citrate (TSC) causes anticoagulation by chelation of ionized calcium in the extracorporeal circuit into a soluble complex. Because calcium is an integral ion involved in the clotting cascade, local removal by citrate prevents the activation of clotting cofactors, factor X, and prothrombin, and the ultimate formation of fibrin. Systemic anticoagulation does not occur. Antimicrobial effect through binding and removal of Ca2+ in the surrounding milieu. Ca2+ may regulate several genes responsible for growth and survival of microbes.
Warnings:
Do not use the vial if the seal is broken!
Do not use vial if solution is not clear and colorless!
To be used by skilled and trained personnel!
For single-use only. Dispose of unused portions!
XXX may not be applied by either direct intravenous injection or added to an infusion!
XXX is intended only for use as catheter lock!
Only inject XXX if the exact catheter lumen volumes are known (see catheter manufacturer’s instructions)!
Contraindicated dose: Injection volume in excess of catheter manufacturer’s specified lumen priming volume.
Side-Effects:
No side-effects known when the solution is used as catheter-lock.
In the event that XXX intentionally passes into the vein paraesthesia and/or dysgensia may occur.
Operating Instructions:
Aseptic technique must be maintained as all times.
Examine catheter lumen, extensions and luers for cracks, swelling or other signs of damage before and after each treatment session.
Prior to initiation of a treatment session the XXX that was instilled in the catheter during the previous session should be aspirated with the help of a syringe and discarded according to the institution’s biohazards waste policy.
Flush each catheter lumen with 5 mL of sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution to remove any blood remaining from the previous operation.
Extract the exact priming volume (prescribed by the catheter manufacturer) of XXX from the vial, using a 5 mL or smaller syringe (to ensure accurate volume).
Inject the priming volume of XXX slowly into the catheter (taking 5-10 sec.).

Allergic reaction (drug hypersensitivity). Allergic reactions, including severe symptoms, have been reported. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include headache, rash, flushing, swelling, shortness of breath, nausea and sometimes vomiting. Severe allergic reactions can cause dizziness, difficulty breathing or swallowing, a decrease in blood pressure, and could be life-threatening. If you have symptoms of an allergic reaction, you should contact the study doctor or the study staff immediately.
Low blood calcium. Temporary lowering of blood calcium levels below normal have been observed in subjects treated with denosumab. The risk of this happening may be higher in subjects with severe kidney disease. You may not have any symptoms of low blood calcium; however, with very low levels of calcium, symptoms may occur such as a tingling sensation, muscle cramping, abnormal heart rate, decreased alertness or confusion, or seizures; deaths have been reported in cancer patients with low blood calcium who have been treated with denosumab 120 mg. Your physician may ask you to take calcium tablets by mouth to correct the low blood calcium or, in rare cases, the doctor might decide to give the calcium through the veins. During the study, if you experience any of these symptoms you should notify your doctor immediately. Taking calcium and vitamin D supplements as directed by your physician will lower the risk that your calcium level will drop below normal.
Osteonecrosis of the jaw. Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a potentially serious condition that can present as a sore in the mouth through which the jaw bone is sometimes visible. The gum tissue over the bone may heal slowly or not heal at all. How this happens is poorly understood. The symptoms of ONJ include pain or infection in the jaw bone and gums. If you develop any of these symptoms, your doctor should examine your mouth to determine if you have ONJ. The risk of developing ONJ is higher in patients who have had tooth removal, gum surgery, infections in the mouth, dental implants or other dental procedures.
