How do you compare DownThemAll! 2.0.15 (http://www.downthemall.net/) and HTTrack Version 3.46-1 (06/23/2012) (http://www.httrack.com/)? Do or can they do the same thing(s)? How are they different? What are the pros and cons of each other? Which is better? Can one install and use both of them beside each oth... See more

Different tools for different purposes Nov 14, 2012

Hi Danesh,

I suppose the answer is a bit late, but I've only recently joined ProZ.com...

Both tools you mentioned offer downloading of information (files) from websites. However, there is a significant difference between the two tools:

DTA is meant for downloading files (e.g. PDFs, images, mp3s, etc.) from a (single) web page. It doesn't download the web page (or any text on that web page).

Both tools you mentioned offer downloading of information (files) from websites. However, there is a significant difference between the two tools:

DTA is meant for downloading files (e.g. PDFs, images, mp3s, etc.) from a (single) web page. It doesn't download the web page (or any text on that web page).

HTTrack offers the downloading of complete websites, including all referenced/contained files. Once downloaded, you could use/access the downloaded website locally, without the need for an Internet connection.

They can be used next to each other, no problems there.
