at first, I thought of suggesting "to persist," but I think that AM"ANA implies more than mere persistence.

I chose the infinitive form because I think it would better serve the structure and readability of the full English sentence, but if you prefer the simple noun form, then "intensification" and "aggravation" would apply. Another structural possibility is the gerund form ("intensifying" and "aggravating").
