٥ - اللواء أ ح م / عبدالمنعم محمد إبراهيم خليل من مواليد أول إبريل ١٩٢١م محافظة المنيا (قلوصنا)
نشأت فى أسرة متوسطة وكان والدى يعمل موظف فى دائرة البرنس / أحمد سيف الدين فى عزبة تتبع
محافظة المنيا وإنتقلنا بعد ذلك فى نفس الدائرة إلى مناطق مختلفة من الجمهورية منها (الزنكلون -
الإسكندرية - القاهرة بمنطقة جاردن سيتى) أنا كنت الولد الوحيد الأصغر لوالدى بعد خمس بنات
وإنتقل والدى للعمل فى دائرة البرئس / أحمد سيف الدين بالقاهرة فى منطقة السيدة زينب والتحقت فى
سن الخامسة بكتاب الشيخ زكى وكان معى إثنين من إخوتى البنات وهنا تبدو لى ذكرى لا أنساها أبدأ
فى أول يوم إلتحقت بهذا الكتاب حيث دخل علينا المدرس شيخ معمم قال "الله الله فى كل مكان" وكان
ينظر إلى السماء يمين ويسار وكنا ننظر معه يميناً ويساراً نبحث عن الله وترسخ فى أنفسنا البحث عن
الله وزاد قربنا من الله أن مسكننا فى منطقة السيدة زينب بجوار مسجد السيدة زينب حيث كنا نسمع
الأذان خمس مرات فى اليوم وكان والدى يصطحبنى معه إلى المسجد للصلاة ثم إنتقلت إلى مدرسة
إلزامية لفترة سئتين وبعدها التحقت بمدرسة محمد على الإبتدائية وحصلت على الشهادة الإبتدائية
العامة سنة ١٩٣٢م والتحقت بمدرسة الخديوية الثانوية بالسيدة زينب وفى السنوات الأولى من المرحلة
الثانوية كنت وفى عام ١٩٣٥م توفيت والدتى فى أغسطس ١٩٣٥م ورغم أنى فقدت الحب والحنان
وإستمريت فى الدراسة حتى أن حصلت على شهادة الثقافة ثم التوجيهية وأذكر بالفضل لمدرس اللغة
الإنجليزية الإنجليزى الجنسية مسترلى فكان يهتم بدراستى الإنجليزية ولغتى وكتاباتى وحتى فى فترات
الأجازة كان يراسلنى بخطابات باللغة الإنجليزية وأرد عليه مما أعطائى خبرة كبيرة فى إجادة اللغة
الإنجليزية حيث أهدائى قلم حبر ووترمان من الذهب وكان معى فى المدرسة الخديوية زملاء دخلوا
معى الكلية الحربية أمثال (صلاح الرفاعى ضابط مدفعية - محمود ممتاز ضابط مشاه - شعراوى
جمعة - كمال الحناوى "وزير الإرشاد") وأخرين وكان هناك أثناء عام ١٩٣٦م مظاهرات كثيرة تطالب
بجلاء الإنجليز عن مصر وكنا نشترك فى هذه المظاهرات ونمر على المدارس فى طريقنا لنحثهم على
الخروج فى المظاهرة وأذكر أنه فى إحدى المظاهرات فى منطقة فم الخليج وقبل كوبرى عباس أوقفنا
الجنود المصريون وإنهالوا علينا ضرباً بالعصا ونالثنى ضربة على بدى اليسار ألمثنى ومازالت أذكرها
ومنذ ذلك الوقت لم أتحرك فى مظاهرات أخرى فقد تطورت حياتى تطوراً جذرياً وإتجهت إلى الإهتمام
بدروسى فى السنوات التالية حتى كتب الله لى النجاح فى التوجيهيه عام ١٩٣٩م
٦- فى هذه الفترات كان والدى يشكوا من أمراض كثيرة مستعيصة وكان يعمل عمليات جراحية كثيرة وكنت
أراه دائماً يتألم حتى أنهم أستغنوا عن خدماته فى دائرة البرئس أحمد سيف الدين فى عام ١٩٣٨م وأخذ
مكافأة ٩٠٠ جنيه تم إستثمارها فى تجارة خالى الذى كان يعمل تاجراً بالأزهر حتى نستطيع التغلب
على نفقات الحياة وحصلت على شهادة الثقافة عام ١٩٣٨م ثم التوجيه عام ١٩٣٩م.
٧- إلتحقت بالكلية الحربية دفعة نوفمبر ١٩٣٩م ولم أكن أفكر فى الإلتحاق بالكليات العسكرية مطلقاً فى
ذلك الوقت وكان إتجاه والدى أن ألتحق بمعهد تجارة فرنسى موجود بالمنيرة بالسيدة زينب ولكن شاءت
الأقدار أن كان عمى (إبن خال والدى) يعمل مفتش فى دائرة البرئس/ أحمد سيف الدين وأخذ البكاوية
فى فترة حكم الملك فاروق وكان أسمه إبراهيم بك شرف الدين وقد ذهبت إلى منزلة وقلت له أنا أريد
الإلتحاق بالكلية الحربية وعاوز واسطة" فأعطائى خطاب لأسلمه لوزير الحربية حمدى سيف النصر
باشا .
٨ - كان وزير الحربية يسكن بشارع الملك بجوار منزل عمى فحملت هذا الخطاب وتوجهت إلى منزلة
ففوجئت بالباب الحديدى يفتح وتخرج منه عربه سوداء كبيرة فألقيت الخطاب فى الشباك الذى بجوار
السائق وعند العرض على مجلس الكلية برئاسة وزير الحربية سألنى عن عمى فقلت بكل صراحة أنا
والدى كان يعمل موظف حسابات فى دائرة البرئس/أحمد سيف الدين وإستغنوا عن خدماته وأعطوه
مكافأة ٩٠٠ جنيه وضعناها عند خالى فريد الحناوى التاجر بالأزهر لإستثمارها وفوجئت أنى قبلت
كطالب بالكلية الحربية بدفعة نوفمبر ١٩٣٩م التى سميت بدفعة ديسمبر ١٩٣٩م وأثناء خدمتى بالكلية
الحربية أذكر أننا كنا نتدرب على طوابير إنضباط لتسليم علم الكلية الحربية إلى الملك فاروق وكان
التدريب مستمراً فى ميدان عابدين وكان يحضر الملك فاروق بملابس مدنية إلى أن جاء الإحتفال
بتسليم العلم وحضر الملك فاروق والوزراء فى ١١ فبرابر ١٩٤١م يوم عيد ميلاد الملك وأذكر أنة بعد
هذا الإحتفال زارنا الملك ومر على بعض الفرق التعليمية وكان يرافقه
الفريق / عزيز المصرى .
٩- أذكر من الشخصيات التى أثرت على شخصيتى العسكرية اليوزباشى/ أحمد عبدالعزيز مدرس مادة
التاريخ العسكرى وأذكر للتاريخ قصته فى حرب ١٩٤٨م كقائداً للقوات المتطوعة التى نجحت فى
الإستيلاء على مواقع مهمة فى منطقة النقب حتى القدس .
١٠ - خلال فترة الكلية الحربية كانت أيام الحرب العالمية الثانية، تعرضت مصر خلال هذه الفترة إلى
هجوم إيطالى على منطقة سيدى برانى وتصدت له القوات الإنجليزية فى معركة سيدى برائى سنة
١٩٤٠م ثم تطور موقف الحرب بدخول ألمانيا مع إيطاليا فى تحالف وتعرضت الصحراء الغربية
المصرية لأعمال قتال .
١١- كنا معرضين ونحن طلبة فى الكلية الحربية لغارات الطائرات الإيطالية ثم الغارات الألمانية الأشد قوة
وكنا نقضى معظم ليالينا فى خنادق فى أرض الكلية .
١٢ - تخرجت فى ٢٨ مايو ١٩٤٢ م وسميت دفعة أول يونيو ١٩٤٢م وأقسمنا يمين الولاء للملك وعينت
فى كتيبة الخدمات العامة وكانت فى منطقة ألماظة وكانت الخدمات هى حراسة المصانع وبعض
مواقع تخص القوات البريطانية فى مصر فى ذلك الوقت كما كنا نقوم بحراسة سراى المنتزة فى
الإسكندرية من الخارج وكان قائد الكتيبة القائمقام /عباس عبدالحميد وكان قائداً ممتازاً فى إلتزامة
وإنضباطه وعمله ولم يكن متزوجاً وكان متزوجاً الوحده وهذا ساعدنا كثيراً فى عملية أهمها من وجهة
نظرى الأتى :
أ - طعام الجنود فعلمنا كيف نتسلم التعيين من مستودعات التعيين وكيف نحافظ عليه وخاصة اللحوم
كان يزنها ويعد قطع اللحم حتى يتأكد أن كل جندى له قطعة ويشرف بنفسه على غسيل
الخضروات وكذا الأوانى وعملية الطهى.
ب - كان إهتمامه كبيراً بعربات الوحدة فكان بمجرد وصوله تصطف الكتيبة بالكامل ضباط وجنود
وعربات ومساجين وعمال المطبخ وعمال الأدبخانات ويقوم بالتفتيش عليهم جميعاً ويقوم
بمحاسبة المخالف بخمس جلدات فوراً وكذا سائقين العربات ويتأكد من وجود الوقود والزيوت
والشحوم وكان يهتم بالمساجين ونظافتهم الشخصية .
ج - كان كل يوم خميس يجمع الضباط بالوحدة على مائدة عاشوراء على نفقته الشخصية ويدعوا إلى
هذا اليوم ضباط كبار من القوات المسلحة ممن يكون من سلطاتهم تسهيل كل أعمال الوحدة
وكان يقوم بحل مشاكل الوحدة بالكامل فى ذلك اليوم .
ترجمة - أنجليزي Birth and Entry into Military Life
- Major General Ahmed Abdel Moneim Mohammed Ibrahim Khalil was born on April 1, 1921, in Minya Governorate (Qusna). I was raised in a middle-class family, and my father worked as an employee in the estate of Prince Ahmed Seif El-Din , in an area affiliated with the Al-Minya Governorate. We later moved, still within the same estate, to different regions of the country, including Al-Zeitoun , Alexandria, and Cairo in the Garden City area. I was the only son, the youngest child after five daughters. My father moved to work in the estate of Prince Ahmed Seif El-Din in Cairo, in the Sayyida Zeinab area. At the age of five, I joined the Kuttab of Sheikh Zaki, along with two of my sisters. This brings back a memory I will never forget from my first day at this Kuttab, when the teacher, a master sheikh, came in and said, "Fear God, fear God in every place," while looking up at the sky, left and right. We looked with him, left and right, searching for God. This instilled in us a search for God. And our connection to God grew stronger because our home was in the Sayyida Zeinab area, next to the Mosque of Sayyida Zeinab . We would hear the call to prayer five times a day, and my father would take me with him to the mosque to pray. Then, I moved to a preparatory school for two years, after which I enrolled in Mohamed Ali Primary School and obtained the General Primary Certificate in 1932. I then joined the Khedivial Secondary School in Sayyida Zeinab. In August 1935, during my early years of secondary school, my mother passed away. Despite losing love and affection, I continued my studies until I obtained the Baccalaureate certificate (high school leaving examination). I recall that my English and French language teacher, Mr. Lee, was particularly attentive to my English studies, my language skills, and my writing. Even during holidays, he would correspond with me in English, and I would reply, which gave me immense proficiency in mastering the English language. He even gifted me a gold Waterman fountain pen. Among my classmates at the Khedivial School were those who entered the military academy with me, such as Salah El-Rifai (artillery officer), Mahmoud Momtaz (infantry officer), Shrawi Gomaa, Kamal El-Hinnawi (minister of guidance), and others. During 1936, there were many demonstrations demanding the evacuation of the British from Egypt participate in these demonstrations, passing by schools on our way to encourage them to join the protests. I recall that in one demonstration in the Qasr El-Khalij area, before Qubri Abbas, Egyptian soldiers stopped us and beat us with sticks. I was struck on my left hand, causing me pain, and I still remember it. From that time on, I did not participate in other demonstrations. My life then underwent a radical transformation, and I turned my attention to my studies in the following years until God granted me success in the Tawjihiyya in 1939.
During this period, my father suffered from many chronic illnesses and underwent several surgeries. I would always see him in pain until he was granted an exemption from his duties in the estate of Prince Ahmed Seif El-Din in 1938. He received a gratuity of 900 pounds, which was invested in my uncle’s trade—he was a merchant in Al-Azhar—so that we could manage the expenses of life. I obtained the Baccalaureate certificate in 1938, followed by the Tawjihiyya (high school leaving certificate) in 1939.
I joined the military academy in the November 1939 intake. At that time, I had no intention whatsoever of joining a military college. My father’s inclination was for me to enroll in a French commercial institute located in Al-Ma’adi , in Sayyida Zeinab. But fate decreed otherwise: my uncle (my father’s cousin) was an inspector in the estate of Prince Ahmed Seif El-Din and had received the title of “Bek” during the reign of King Farouk. His name was Ibrahim Bek Sharaf El-Din. I went to his house and told him, “I want to join the Military Academy, and I need someone to pull strings for me .” He gave me a letter to deliver to the Minister of War, Mohamed Seif El-Nasr Pasha.
The Minister of War’s residence was on King Street, next to my uncle’s house. I took that letter and went to his house. I was surprised to see a modern gate open, and a large black car came out. So, I tossed the letter through the window next to the driver. When I appeared before the Military Academy board presided over by the Minister of War, he asked me about my uncle. I said with complete honesty, “My father used to work as an accounts clerk in the estate of Prince Ahmed Seif El-Din. They dispensed with his services and gave him a gratuity of 900 pounds, which we placed with my uncle Farid El-Hennawy, a merchant in Al-Azhar , to invest.” To my surprise, I was accepted as a candidate for the Military Academy for the November 1939 intake, which came to be known as the December 1939 intake. While I was at the Military Academy, I recall that we trained in discipline formations to present the Military Academy flag to King Farouk . The training continued at Abdeen Square. King Farouk would attend in civilian clothes until the flag‑handing ceremony took place, with King Farouk and the ministers present, on February 11, 1941, the king’s birthday. I also recall that after this ceremony, the king visited us and walked past some of the training units, accompanied by Lieutenant General Aziz El‑Masry. 
Among the personalities who shaped my military character, I remember Youzbashi Ahmed Abdel Aziz, the military history instructor. History bears witness to his story in the Arab-Israeli War of 1948 , when he led the volunteer units that succeeded in seizing important positions in the Negev region all the way to Jerusalem.
During my time at the Military Academy, the Second World War was ongoing. In 1940, Italian forces attacked Sidi Barrani in Egypt, but British troops successfully repelled them in the Battle of Sidi Barrani . The conflict subsequently escalated as Germany allied with Italy, and military operations extended across Egypt’s Western Desert.
As cadets at the Military Academy, we faced air raids from Italian aircraft and later endured even more intense German raids. We would spend most of our nights in trenches on the academy grounds.
I graduated on May 28, 1942, and our intake was named the first of June, 1942, class. We took the oath of allegiance to the king, and I was assigned to the General Services Battalion , which was located in the Al‑Amiriya area . Our duties included guarding factories and some installations belonging to the British forces in Egypt at the time. We also provided external guard duty for the ammunition depot in Alexandria. The battalion commander was Qa’im maqam Abbas Abdel Hamid, an excellent commander in terms of commitment, discipline, and work ethics. He was not married—he was single—and this helped us greatly in many matters. Among the most important aspects from my perspective were:
a) Soldiers’ food: He taught us how to receive supplies from the supply depots and how to preserve them, especially meat. He would weigh the meat and count each piece to ensure every soldier got his share. He personally supervised the washing of vegetables, as well as the cooking utensils and the cooking process.
b) His attention to vehicles was total: the moment he arrived, the entire battalion—officers, soldiers, vehicles, kitchens, and bakery workers—would line up. He inspected everyone and held violators accountable with a fine or up to five lashes , as was the practice then, including the drivers. He also ensured that fuel, oils, and grease were available, and he paid close attention to the prisoners and their personal hygiene.
c) Every Thursday , he would gather the unit’s officers at a communal table for a meal at his personal expense. On that day, he would invite senior officers from the armed forces who might have the authority to facilitate the unit’s various tasks. He would resolve all the unit issues on that day.
