1. WHAT X CALCIUM CARBONATE VITAMIN D3 IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
This medicine contains two active substances calcium and vitamin D3. Calcium is an important constituent of bone and vitamin D3 helps the absorption of calcium by the intestine and its deposition in the bones.
It is used:
• In the correction of calcium and vitamin D deficiencies in the elderly.
• In combination with osteoporosis treatments where calcium and vitamin D levels are too low or where there is a high risk of them being too low.
2. BEFORE YOU TAKE X CALCIUM CARBONATE VITAMIN D3 Do not take X Calcium Carbonate Vitamin D3
• If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to calcium, vitamin D or to one of the other components of X Calcium Carbonate Vitamin D3 (see section 6).
• If you have an abnormally high level of calcium in the blood (hypercalcaemia) and/or excessive loss of calcium in the urine (hypercalciuria).
• If you have a condition that could lead to hypercalcaemia and/or hypercalciuria (e.g. overactive parathyroid glands, a disease of the bone marrow (myeloma), a malignant bone tumor (bone metastases)).
• If you are suffering from kidney failure
• If you are suffering from kidney stones (calcium lithiasis) or have calcium deposits in your kidneys(nephrocalcinosis)
• If you are suffering from an excessive supply of vitamin D (hypervitaminosis D)
Take special care with X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D 3
• In the case of long-term treatment with X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3, the quantity of calcium in the blood (calcaemia) must be regularly monitored. This monitoring is particularly important in the elderly and where treatment is being taken at the same time as cardiac glycosides (e.g. Digoxin) or diuretics. Depending upon the result, your doctor may decide to reduce or even stop your treatment.
• You should take the tablet with a large glass of water (200 ml). If you are more than 65 years old or have difficulties to swallow, you should divide the breakable tablet in two parts and take them with a large glass of water (200 ml).
Before taking X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3 tell your doctor or phar-macist:
• If you have had kidney stones.
• If you are suffering from an immune disorder (sarcoidosis), as the amount of calcium in your blood and urine must be checked.
• If you are immobile and are suffering from reduced bone mass (osteoporosis). This may increase the level of calcium in your blood too much, which can cause side effects.
• If you are taking other medicines containing vitamin D3 or calcium. This may increase the level of calcium in your blood too much, which can cause side effects.
Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
In particular,
• Thiazide diuretics (medicines used to treat high blood pressure), as they may in-crease the amount of calcium in your blood.
• Oral steroids, as they may reduce the amount of calcium in your blood.
• Orlistat (a medicine used to treat obesity), cholestyramine, laxatives such as paraffin oil, as they may reduce the amount of vitamin D3 you absorb.
• Phenytoin (a medicine for epilepsy) and barbiturates (medicines which help you sleep), as they may make the vitamin D3 less effective.
• Cardiac glycosides (medicines used to treat heart problems), as they may cause more side effects if you take too much calcium.
• Tetracycline antibiotics, as the amount absorbed may be reduced. They should be taken at least 2 hours before, or 4-6 hours after X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3.
• Estramustin (a medicine used in chemotherapy), thyroid hormones or medicines con-taining iron, zinc or strontium, as the amount absorbed may be reduced. They should be taken at least 2 hours before or after X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3.
• Bisphosphonates (a treatment for bone conditions), fluoride or fluoroquinolones (a type of antibiotic), as the amount absorbed may be reduced. They should be taken at least 3 hours before or after X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3.
• Other medicines containing calcium or vitamin D while you are taking X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3, this may increase the level of calcium in your blood.
Taking X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3 with food and drink
In the two hours before taking X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3, you should avoid eating foods containing oxalic acid (e.g. spinach and rhubarb) or phytic acid (e.g. wholegrain cereals), which can reduce calcium absorption.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
This medicine may be used during pregnancy, however the total daily intake of calcium should not be higher than 1500 mg and the daily intake of vitamin D not higher than 600 IU. Therefore, in the case of pregnancy, the daily dose of X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3 must not exceed one tablet per day. Higher amounts may have a negative effect on the unborn child.
During breast-feeding you can use X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3. As calci-um and vitamin D3 passes into breast milk you have to check with your doctor first if your infant receives any other products containing vitamin D3.
Driving and using machines:
No effects on the ability to drive and use machines are expected.VITAMIN D3
3. HOW TO TAKE X CALCIUM CARBONATE with VITAMIN D3
Always take X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3 as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor if you are not sure.
Take 1 or 2 tablets daily with a meal or as directed by a health care practitioner. Take a few hours before or after taking other medications. Pregnant women should only take 1 tablet per day.
You should take the tablet with a large glass of water (200 ml). If you are more than 65 years old or have difficulties to swallow, you should divide the breakable tablet in two parts and take them with a large glass of water (200 ml).
If you take more X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3 than you should
If you have taken more X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3 than you should and experience any of the symptoms of overdose, stop taking X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3 and immediately contact your doctor. Symptoms of overdose may include: anorexia, excessive thirst, feeling sick (nausea), vomiting, constipation, abdom-inal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental health problems, increased urine output, bone pain, kidney stones.
In the case of prolonged overdosage, calcium deposits may appear in blood vessels or body tissues.
In the case of major overdosage, cardiac arrest may occur.
If you forget to take X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3 Do not take a double dose to compensate for a forgotten tablet.
4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3 can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Uncommon side effect (affects 1 to 10 users in 1,000): excess calcium levels in the blood or urine.
Rare side effects (affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000): constipation, flatulence, feeling sick (nausea), abdominal pain, diarrhea, itching, skin rashes and urticarial.
If any of the side effects get serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
5. HOW TO STORE X CALCIUM CARBONATE with VITAMIN D3 Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Do not use X Calcium Carbonate with Vitamin D3 after the expiry date, which is stated on the carton and the blisters. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Store at room temperature (15ºC - 30ºC).
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your phar-macist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

1. التعريف بكربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x و دواعي استعماله:
يحتوي هذا الدواء على مادّتين فاعلتين هما الكالسيوم و فيتامين د3. الكالسيوم مكوّن مهمّ للعظام، بينما يساعد فيتامين د على امتصاص الكالسيوم بواسطة الأمعاء و ترسّبه في العظام.
يستعمل هذا الدواء في:
ــ تصحيح عوز الكالسيوم و فيتامين د3 لدى كبار السّن.
ــ يعطى مرافقا لعلاجات تخلخل العظام أين يكون مستوى كل من الكالسيوم و فيتامين د3 منخفضا جدا أو عند وجود أي خطر يؤدي إلى خفض مستواهما.
2. قبل تتناول كربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x
لا تأخذ كربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المحضّر لدى x في الحالات التالية:
ــ إذا كنت تعاني من حساسية للكالسيوم، لفيتامين د أو لأحد المكوّنات الأخرى لكربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x (أنظر الفصل 6).
ــ إذا كان لديك مستوى الكالسيوم في الدم مرتفعا بشكل غير عادي (فرط كالسيوم الدم) أو فقد مفرط للكالسيوم في البول (فرط كالسيوم البول) أو كلاهما معا.
ــ إذا كنت تعاني من حالة مرضية قد تؤدي إلى فرط كالسيوم الدم أو فرط كالسيوم البول أو كليهما (مثلا نشاط مفرط للغدة جارة الدرقية، مرض نخاع العظم (ورم نقوي)، ورم عظمي خبيث (تواجد النقيليات السرطانية في العظم)).
ــ إذا كنت تعاني من فشل كلوي.

أخذ إحتياطات خاصّة عند تناول كربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x
ــ في حالة العلاج طويل الأمد بكربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x، يجب مراقبة كمية الكالسيوم في الدم (كالسيميا) بانتظام. و تكون المراقبة مهمّة بشكل خاصّ لدى كبار السّن و في حالة تزامن أخذ العلاج مع جليكوسيدات القلب (مثلا، ديجوكسين) أو الأدوية المدرّة للبول. و اعتمادا على النتيجة المسجّلة، يمكن لطبيبك أن يقرّر اختزال فترة العلاج أو حتى توقيفه.

ــ إذا كنت تتناول أدويّة أخرى تحتوي على فيتامين د3 أو كالسيوم؛ فقد يؤدي ذلك إلى زيادة كبيرة في مستوى الكالسيوم في الدم و بالتالي إلى ظهور آثار جانبية.
تعاطي أدوية أخرى:
من فضلك أخبر طبيبك أو الصّيدلي عن أيّة أدوية أخرى أنت بصدد أخذها الآن أو تلك التي أخذتها مؤخرا بما فيها تلك التي لا تتطلّب وصفة طبيّة.
و بصفة خاصّة:
ــ أدوية ثيازيد المدرّة للبول (تستعمل لعلاج الضّغط الدموي المرتفع)، لأنه يمكنها أن تسبّب زيادة كميّة الكالسيوم في الدم.
ــ الستيرويدات المعطاة عن طريق الفم لأنها قد تؤدي إلى اختزال كميّة الكالسيوم في الدم.
ــ أورليستات (دواء لعلاج السّمنة)، كوليستيرامين، ومليّنات مثل زيت البرافين، لأنها قد تختزل كميّة فيتامين د3 التي يمتصّها الجسم.
ــ فينيتوين (دواء لعلاج الصّرع) و الباربيتورات (أدوية مساعدة على النوم)، لأنها قد تجعل فيتامين د3 أقلّ فاعلية.
ــ جليكوسيدات القلب (أدوية لعلاج مشاكل القلب)، لأنها قد تسبّب آثار جانبية إضافية إذا ما تناولت كميات زائدة من الكالسيوم.
ــ المضادات الحيويّة تيتراسيكلين لأنها تختزل كميات الكالسيوم الممتصّة؛ لذلك يجب أخذها على الأقل ساعتين قبل أو من 4 إلى 6 ساعات بعد تناول كربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع x.

ــ ثنائي الفوسفونات (لعلاج أمراض العظام)، الفليوريد أو الفليوروكينولونات (نوع من المضادات الحيوية)، لأنها تختزل كميات الكالسيوم الممتصّة؛ لذلك يجب أن تؤخذ على الأقل 3 ساعات قبل أو بعد تناول كربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x.

تناول كربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى توب كندا مع الطعام و الشراب

3. كيفية استعمال كربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x
تقيّد دائما بإرشادات الطبيب عند أخذ كربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x، وأعد استشارته إن لم تكن متأكدا من فهمها.
خذ قرصا أو قرصين يوميا مع الطعام أو حسب تعليمات ممارس الصحّة؛ و عليك أن تنتظر لساعات قليلة قبل أو بعد تناول أدوية أخرى. لا يمكن للنساء الحوامل أخذ أكثر من قرص واحد يوميا.

لا تأخذ جرعة مضاعفة لتعويض القرص الذي نسيت أخذه.
4. الآثار الجانبية المحتملة
ككل الأدوية، يمكن لكربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x أن يتسبّب في ظهور آثار جانبية لدى بعض الأشخاص.
أثر جانبي غير شائع (يطال 1 إلى 10 متعاطين في 1000): مستويات كالسيوم مفرطة في الدم و البول.
آثار جانبية نادرة (تطال 1 إلى 10 متعاطين في 10000): إمساك، إنتفاخ البطن بالغازات، الشعور بالمرض (الغثيان)، أوجاع البطن، إسهال، حكّة، طفح و شرى جلدي.
في حالة ما إذا تطوّر واحد من الآثار الجانبية ليشكّل خطرا، أو إذا لاحظت آثارا أخرى غير مذكورة في هذا المنشور، أخبر طبيبك أو الصيدلي.
5. كيفية حفظ كربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x
احفظ المستحضر بعيدا عن متناول وأعين الأطفال.
لا تتعاطى كربونات الكالسيوم مع فيتامين د3 المصنّع لدى x بعد انتهاء مدّة الصّلاحية؛ تجد التاريخ المحدّد لذلك على الكرتون و على صفيحة الدّواء. يشير تاريخ انتهاء الصّلاحية إلى آخر يوم من الشهر.
يحفظ في درجة حرارة الغرفة (°15 ـ °30 د.م).
لا تتخلّص من الأدوية منتهية الصّلاحية وغير المستعملة عن طريق الصّرف المنزلي أو القمامة. استشر الصّيدلي في ذلك ليقترح عليك ترتيبات تساعد في الحفاظ على البيئة.

But ordinarily, the wider world would pay little attention to a child's death from infectious disease in this remote corner of Vietnam's Mekong Delta. Old scourges like dengue fever and typhoid still take a toll here, and HIV/AIDS is on the rise.
Yet Ngoan's death and more than 50 others in Southeast Asia over the past two years have raised alarms worldwide. Affected countries are struggling to take action; other nations are sending aid and advisers while stockpiling drugs and developing vaccines at home. And scientists have stepped up their research into the fateful traffic of disease between animals and people.
Why? Because Ngoan died of the flu.
To most of us, flu is a nuisance disease, an annual hassle endured along with taxes and dentists. Some people think a flu shot isn't worth the bother. But flu is easy to underestimate. The virus spreads so easily via tiny droplets that 30 million to 60 million Americans catch it each year. Some 36,000 die, mostly the elderly. It mutates so fast that no one ever becomes fully immune, and a new vaccine has to be made each year.
That's ordinary flu. But the disease that is taking lives in Southeast Asia is no ordinary flu. Its primary victims have been chickens, more than a hundred million of them, killed either by the virus or in often futile control efforts. It's not unusual for chickens to get flu; in fact, avian-flu viruses far outnumber human ones. But Robert Webster of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis has studied flu viruses for 40 years and has never seen the likes of the one that killed Ngoan.
"This virus right from scratch is probably the worst influenza virus, in terms of being highly pathogenic, that I've ever seen or worked with," Webster says. Not only is it frighteningly lethal to chickens, which can die within hours of exposure, swollen and hemorrhaging, but it kills mammals from lab mice to tigers with similar efficiency. Here and there people have come down with it too, catching it from infected poultry like the chickens that died on Ngoan's farm a few days before she fell ill. Half the known cases have died.
In those deaths many public health experts hear the distant rumblings of a catastrophe. So far this virus—classified as H5N1 for two proteins that stud its surface like spikes on a mace—isn't good at passing from birds to people, let alone from one person to the next. "It can make that first step across, but then it doesn't spread easily from human to human," says Webster. "Thank God. Or else we'd be in big trouble."
Maybe H5N1 will never learn the trick of racing from person to person like the milder flus that empty offices and classrooms each year. Maybe it simply can't. Or maybe efforts to eradicate the virus—largely fitful and underfunded so far—will succeed. But experts are urging the world to prepare for the worst.
What is known about flu viruses' remarkable capacity to change and jump species has led to a sense of inevitability, a conviction that even if this menacing animal flu doesn't explode into a global pandemic that kills millions, another one will. "It's going to happen, at some point, that a virus like this changes to be able to transmit from one person to another," says Jeremy Farrar, an Oxford University doctor who works on the front lines of avian flu at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City. "It's bound to happen. And when it does, the world is going to face a truly horrible pandemic."
After all, it has happened before.
In 1918, the final year of the savage trench fighting of World War I, something else began felling the soldiers. No one knows for sure when or where the Spanish flu emerged, though it certainly wasn't in Spain. As a neutral country, Spain had no wartime censorship, and the flu apparently got its false pedigree from news reports about outbreaks there in May 1918. In fact the disease was already spreading on both sides of the European front, laying low entire divisions through the spring and early summer. Then it seemed to subside.
In late summer, though, the Spanish flu returned, and this time its virulence was unmistakable. The sick took to their beds with fever, piercing headache, and joint pain. Many were young adults, exactly the group that normally shrugs off the flu. About five percent of the victims died, some in just two or three days, their faces turning a ghastly purple as they essentially suffocated to death. Doctors who opened the chests of the dead were horrified: The lungs, normally light and elastic, were as heavy as waterlogged sponges, clogged with bloody fluid.
After flashing through crowded military camps and troopships in Europe and the United States, the flu leaped out of uniform to ports and industrial cities. In Philadelphia, historian Alfred Crosby found, 12,000 people died of flu and pneumonia in October—759 in a single day. Schools and businesses were shut down and church services cancelled. Morgues overflowed.
By then the sickness had spread to the far corners of the planet, from the South Pacific to the Arctic. "Everybody on Earth breathed in the virus, and half of them got sick," says Jeffery Taubenberger of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Maryland, who is trying to learn what made it such a killer. More than 50 million people died—at least three times as many as in the war. The best medical minds of the day could hardly believe that this was flu.
It was flu all right, but with a crucial difference that scientists are only beginning to understand. Scattered across Taubenberger's desk are translucent wax blocks the size of matchboxes. Borrowed from a pathology archive, they hold fingernail-size scraps of purplish tissue, sliced from the lungs of flu victims in U.S. military hospitals almost 90 years ago. In the mid-1990s Taubenberger and his colleagues realized that a sample from someone who died quickly, lungs still seething with virus, might still hold genetic traces of the killer. They were right: In 1996 lung tissue from a soldier who died in September 1918 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, yielded pieces of the virus's genes.

I am a translator in the life sciences field. My passion for translating science started since I completed my higher education in the United Kingdom and started a scientific and teaching career back home in Algeria. By then, I was fully engaged in the practice of science translation into Arabic on a regular basis as an important part of my teaching obligations in the Faculty of the Life Sciences, University of Constantine. In 2002, I joined the Languages and Translation Laboratory of the same University to embark on a parallel translation career which lasted for eight years.
I have moved to Canada in 2010 as a qualified professional immigrant, and have been settling there since. I am fully realizing my passion for languages as I am immersed in a beautiful and fulfilling Canadian bilingual culture.
