Public reactions to the news of President Hosni Mubarak’s surgery to remove the gall bladder and a growth in the small intestine on 6 March in a German hospital in Heidelberg ran the gamut of emotions.
Quelling health rumours, a week after the surgery Egyptian TV broadcast a short item on Tuesday afternoon showing the president seated on a chair in his hospital room surrounded by his doctors and talking to them. Mubarak’s surgeon then announced continued improvement in the president’s “overall medical condition” as well as his “physical activities and appetite”. Nonetheless, said the doctor, Mubarak will remain under his full supervision for the “coming days”. “Mubarak was upbeat and in very good spirits as usual,” said Dr Markus Buechler, who leads the medical team. “His resolve and willpower that we have witnessed all this week was very obvious this morning as he looked forward to going back to his normal activity,” he added.
The televised appearance led to a sharp rebound of the Egyptian stock market after it had its largest fall on Monday since December. Egypt’s benchmark EGX30 index had lost 3.84 per cent by the close of the day’s trading after falling 2.4 per cent the previous day. Market analysts attributed the uncertainty to rumours over the president’s health.
Repeated announcements by spokesmen for the Heidelberg University Hospital stressing that President Mubarak was making a steady recovery did little to avert the flurry of speculation. Nor has the expert opinion of doctors who say gall bladder operations are routine procedures that seldom result in complications.
German sources speaking on condition of anonymity say neither the surgeon who conducted the operation nor the spokesperson for the hospital where the president is being treated would offer inaccurate information, even when the patient is also a head of state.
Meanwhile, German and Egyptian officials both continue to state the obvious: the volume of information that the president and his family choose to offer to the public is the prerogative of the president and his family.
Minister of Information Anas El-Fiqi has offered a steady stream of progress reports on the president’s health, intended, he said, to ensure complete transparency.
Alieddin Hilal, a leading figure of the ruling National Democratic Party, said on Tuesday that President Mubarak would appear in a short TV interview soon.
The first time it was officially announced that the president was flying overseas for a medical operation — in June 2004, again to Germany, though that time Munich for an operation on his spine — Mubarak spent 17 days overseas, during which time speculation on the state of his health ran rife.
Some opposition figures have expressed concern over the management of the president’s trip, arguing that insufficient detail is being provided and that officials need to announce at least a tentative date for Mubarak’s return. In the absence of such details, they say, speculation spins out of control, which is particularly hazardous given the centrality of the office of president in Egypt’s political and administrative system.
“The nation cannot be left guessing. State institutions must be fully informed about the true state of the president’s health,” says Hassan Nafaa, a political science professor and opposition activist.
Privately, officials suggest that Mubarak could return within a week to 10 days though no official statement has been made.
In accordance with the constitution Mubarak has delegated his powers to the prime minister pending his return. For many, though, the biggest concern relates to the failure to appoint a vice-president since Mubarak assumed the presidency following the 1981 assassination of Anwar El-Sadat at the hand of militant Islamists.
Under the constitution, should the office of president become vacant presidential powers will be exercised by the speaker of the parliament for 60 days, allowing for presidential elections to be held. It is a system, claim many, that offers little in the way of reassurance.
“If it is such a safe arrangement then why has the stock market fallen in the wake of rumours over the health of the president?” asked one small scale investor.
During the past two weeks the government has taken no major decisions. A decision over who will be the new sheikh of Al-Azhar has been deferred until the return of the president.
The big question now is will Mubarak contest the presidential elections scheduled for 2011, as most seemed to agree he would before his medical treatment in Heidelberg?
The opposition has long been uncomfortable with the constitutional amendments that will dictate who becomes Egypt’s next president, complaining that the current regulations make it all but impossible for anyone outside the upper echelons of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) to succeed President Mubarak, and effectively bar independent candidates from standing.
“The speaker of parliament is member of the political bureau of the National Democratic Party, and so is the speaker of the Shura Council,” points out Hussein Abdel-Razek, leader of the leftist Tagammu Party.
Yet even members of the NDP concede that it is unlikely that their future candidate will command the legitimacy of the current president which, they admit, is rooted in his record of military service and not in his affiliation to the ruling party. Indeed, it can be argued that it is President Mubarak who lends legitimacy to the NDP, which he heads, rather than vice versa.

ولطالما كانت المعارضة غير مرتاحة للتعديلات الدستورية التي يتملي من يكون رئيس مصر القادم، وتشكو من أن القوانين الحالية تجعل من المستحيل على أي أحد خارج المراتب العليا من الحزب الوطني الديموقراطي الحاكم لخلافة الرئيس مبارك وتمنع بالفعل ظهور المرشحين المستقلين.
ويشير حسين عبد الرازق رئيس حزب التجمع اليساري أن "إن رئيس البرلمان عضو بالمكتب السياسي للحزب الوطني الديموقراطي وكذا رئيس مجلس الشورى".
وحتى بعض أعضاء الحزب الوطني الديموقراطي يعترفون بأنه ليس من الممكن أن يتمتع مرشحهم المستقبلي بالشرعية التي يتمتع بها الرئيس الحالي والتي تأصلت عن طريق سجله في الخدمة العسكرية وليس لانتماءه للحزب الحاكم. بالفعل يمكن القول بأن الرئيس مبارك هو الذي يعطي الشرعية للحزب الوطني الديموقراطي الذي يرأسه وليس العكس.

شهدت مصر خلال الحكم الإسلامي نهضة شاملة فى العمران والفنون تمثلت فى العمارة الإسلامية بإنشاء العديد من المساجد والقلاع والحصون والأسوار، كذلك الفنون الزخرفية التى تمثلت فى أول عاصمة إسلامية فى مصر وهى مدينة "الفسطاط"
الدولة الإسلامية في مصر
كانت مصر تابعة للدولة البيزنطية التي كانت عاصمتها القسطنطينية ( استنبول حاليا ) وكان المصريون يطلقون عليهم الروم ( وهم غير الرومان حكام روما ).
كان المصريون يعانون من حكم الروم حيث كانوا يفرضون عليهم ضرائب كثيرة ويضطهدون المذهب الديني الذي يعتنقه الأقباط في مصر.
قاد عمرو بن العاص جيوش المسلمين لفتح مصر وسار من الشام حتى دخل العريش ومنها إلي الفاراما (قرب بورسعيد ) حيث فتحها عام 640 ميلادية ثم تقدم حتى بلغ بلبيس وفتحها ومنها إلي عين شمس حيث انتصر علي الروم في حصن بابليون في مصر القديمة، فحاصرهم عمرو بن العاص إلي أن استسلم الروم بعد 6 شهور. بعد ذلك تقدم عمرو بن العاص إلي الإسكندرية التي كانت عاصمة الدولة البيزنطية في مصر وفتحها ورحل الروم وبدأ حكم الدولة الإسلامية في مصر.
بني عمرو بن العاص عاصمة جديدة لمصر اسماها الفسطاط وذلك بجوار حصن Babylon وهكذا انتقلت العاصمة من الإسكندرية. كما بني عمرو بن العاص أول مسجد في مصر وهو المسجد المعروف بجامع عمرو بن العاص في حي مصر القديمة بالقاهرةصلاح الدين والصليبين
بدأت الحروب الصليبية في عام 1096 واستمرت مائتي عام.
تطلع المسيحيين إلي إنشاء دولة لهم حول بيت المقدس وتمكنوا من تحقيق ذلك عند استيلائهم علي المدينة المقدسة في أول حرب صليبية يشنونها في عام 1099 وفي عام 1168 هاجم الصليبيون في مصر أرسل سكان سوريا قائده الكردي (شيركوه) إلي مصر للمساعدة في إخراج المسيحيين منها. وعين ( شيركوه ) في منصب وزيرا أو رئيس للوزراء لدي الحاكم الفاطمي ولكن المنية لم تمهلة.
وعلي كل فقد خلفة ابن اخيه في منصب الوزير واسم هذا الرجل هو صلاح الدين الأيوبي. ومن الجدير بالذكر أن صلاح الدين الأيوبي كان محاربا وسلطانا لمصر وبطلا في معارك الإسلام ضد الصليبين. وطد الحكم في مصر لأسرة الأيوبيين. كما عاد بناء مدينة القاهرة وشيد القلعة التي تشرف علي المدينة منذ القرن الثاني عشر. مات صلاح الدين في عام 1193 وطوال السنوات العشرين التالية دارت حروب كثيرة ضد الصليبين وبعد فشل الحرب الصليبية السابعة تركت مصر وشأنها فقد انتهي دورها في الحروب الصليبية. فقد أعاد الأيوبيون المذهب السني القويم في العقيدة الإسلامية إلى البلاد وجعلوا مصر مركزا للتعليم الإسلامي والثقافة مرة أخرى. كما جلبوا المماليك إلى البلاد بأعداد كبيرة.
المماليك
مماليك بمعني مملوكين استقدموا لأول مرة إلي مصر في عهد صلاح الدين وعمه .وبعد استيرادهم من خارج نطاق بلاد المسلمين في أوربا واسيا ويتلقون تعليما أساسيا ويعتنقون الدين الإسلامي ويدربون علي الجندية. وعلاقة المملوك بسيدة نموذج غير مألوف في عالم الرقيق ، إذ كانت اقرب إلي صله الأرحام منها إلي العبودية. إنتهت الأسرة الأيوبية باغتيال أخر خلفائها علي أيدي فصائل المماليك ثم انتخبوا واحدا منهم ليكون حاكما جديدا هو ايبك كبير المماليك الذي بدأ عهد الحكم المملوكي في مصر من 1250 حتى 1517.وكانت هناك أسرتان حاكمتان من المماليك : أسرة المماليك البحرية التي حكمت مصر حتى عام 1382 وأسرة المماليك الشراكسة. وتكونت منهم الطبقة الحاكمة في مصر، ولهم وحدهم الحقوق السياسية. >فما كان الفلاحون في نظرهم إلا مجرد منتجين للطعام والمواد الأخرى. وأصبحت مصرفي عهد المماليك البحرية قوة عظمى في العالم الإسلامي. ولكن في عهد المماليك الشراكسة تراجع مصير مصر حتى ضعفت البلاد من كثرة المنازعات وانتهي الأمر بفتح الأتراك العثمانيين لمصر
مصر تحت حكم الدولة العثمانية
في مصر حل العثمانيون محل المماليك وفي ظل النظام القديم كانت جميع الأراضي ملكا للتاج يستأجرها الفلاحون ويدفعون عنها الضرائب. وتدفع الضرائب سلعا عينية - أي من المحاصيل.أما في ظل هذا النظام فقد منح جزء كبير من الأرض للجنود وكبار رجال الدين. حاول العثمانيون تخفيض وطأة الضرائب عن الفلاحين. وقاموا بتحسين نظم الري واستصلحوا المزيد من الأرض للزراعة. وأسندو عملية جمع الضرائب إلي جامعي الضرائب من الفلاحين الذين دأبوا علي دفع جزء معين منها إلي نائب السلطان العثماني، والاحتفاظ بالباقي لأنفسهم. وفي ظل طبقة ملاك الأراضي الجديدة يتحتم علي الفلاحين أن يدفعوا المزيد ثم المزيد من الضرائب. وأوكلوا الإدارة إلي الموظفين المختصين في كل قرية ليكونوا مسئولين عن تدبير شئون الفلاحين. وهذا ما جعل الفلاحين اشد عزلة عن الطبقة الحاكمة والمدن.
نابليون بونابرات
غزا الفرنسيون بقيادة نابليون بونابرت مصر وفتحوها عام 1798 فقد قدموا من البحر علي شاطئ وواجهوا جيش المماليك في معركة الأهرامات وهزموهم شر هزيمة.وبعد تدمير قوة المماليك التمس نابليون التعاون مع القادة المصريين الوطنيين.وحاول إقناع أولئك القادة بأنة صديق للمسلمين وان هدفه من دخول مصر هو تحرير الشعب من ظلم المماليك وليس للقضاء علي الإسلام.وفضلا عن التغيرات الحكومية التي حدثت أسس نابليون والفرنسيون "المعهد الفرنسي " ليكون مكانا يعمل علي تنمية العلم والاقتصاد والفنون والأدب والأنظمة الأخرى.وعمل العلماء والمهندسين الفرنسيين كذلك علي تعبيد الطرق وبناء المصانع وتشييد الترسانات.وعملت الحكومة العثمانية علي مناوأة نابليون وقام البريطانيون بقيادة اللورد نيلسون بتدمير السفن الفرنسية فقطعوا بذلك الطريق بين الفرنسيين وبلادهم فرنسا.وثارت حركات التمرد العارمة وخاصة في القاهرة في عام 1798.وعلي أي حال، اضطر الفرنسيون إلي مغادرة مصر تحت وطأة الهجمات العثمانية ومساعدة الإنجليز لهم. وتولي العثمانيون السلطة مرة أخرى ولكن مصر لم تعد كما كانت من قبل.

Egypt during the Islamic ruling witnessed a comprehensive renaissance in construction and arts represented in the Islamic Architecture by building many mosques, citadels, fortresses, and walls, also in the ornamental arts represented in the first Islamic Capital in Egypt, the city of "Al Fostat".
The Islamic government in Egypt
Egypt was following the Byzantine Government which had Qustantine (now Istanbul) as its capital, and the Egyptians were calling them the Romans (and they are not the Romans who ruled Rome). The Egyptians were suffering from the Roman Ruling as they were forcing them to pay al lot of taxes and suppressing the Religious belief of the Egyptian Qobts.
Amro Ibn Al Aas led the Muslim Army to conquest Egypt and walked from Sham till he enter Arish and then to the Farama (near Portsaid) as he opened it in 640 AD then he moved forward till he reached Belbeis and opened it then to Ain Shams where he conquered the Roman in the fortress of Babylon in Old Egypt, Amro Ibn Al Aas seiged them till they surrendered after six months. After that Amro Ibn Al Aas moved forward to Alexandria that was the Byzantine Capital in Egypt, opened it, the Romans left and the Islamic Ruling Began in Egypt.
Amro Ibn Al Aas built a new capital for Egypt and called it Al Fostat beside the fortress of Babylon, so the capital was moved from Alexandria. Also Amro Ibn Al Aas built the first mosque in Egypt which is the well known mosque Amro Ibn Al Aas in the district of Old Egypt in Cairo.
Salah El Din and the Crusaders
The Crusade wars began in the year 1096 and continued for two hundred years. The Christians looked forward to establish a country for themselves around Jerusalem and they managed to do that when they invaded the holy city in the first crusade war in 1099, then in 1168the crusaders attacked Egypt and the Syrians sent their Kurdishleader "Shericoh" to help getting the Christians out of Egypt. Then "Shericoh" entitled a minister or a prime minister with the Fatimist ruler but he died suddenly. Nevertheless, his nephew succeeded him in the ministry and his name was Salah El Din Al Ayoubi. And it is worth mentioning that Salah El Din was a warrior, a sultan for Egypt, and a hero in the battles of Islam against the crusaders. He consolidated the Ayoubi family's rule in Egypt, he rebuilt the city of Cairo and built the citadel that looked for the city from the 12th century. Salah El Din died in 1193 and through the next twenty years many wars took place against the crusaders and after the failure of the seventh crusade war Egypt was left alone as its part was finished in the crusade wars. The Ayoubians revived the Sunni doctrine in the Islamic Belief to the country and made Egypt a center for Islamic Education and culture once more, and they also brought the Mamluks to the country in massive amounts.
The Mamluks
The Mamluks, means those who are owned, were brought first time to Egypt in the age of Salah El Din and his uncle, and after importing them from out of the muslim countries from Europe and Asia and they are educated and converted to Islam and trained to be soldiers. The relationship between a mamluk and a lady was an extraordinary model in the slavery world as it was the nearest to relatives bonding than to slavery. The Ayoubi family ended by the assassination of its last successor on the hand of the mamluk militias then they elected one of them to be the new ruler who was Aybak the Mamluks leader who started the ruling of Mamluks in Egypt in 1250 till 1517 and there were two ruling families of the Mamluks, the navy mamluk family that ruled Egypt till 1382 and the sharkas mamluk family that the ruling class was made up from them and they only had the political rights as the peasants in their view were not more than food producers and other supplies providers. Egypt in the age of the navy Mamluks became a major force in the Islamic world, but in the sharkas Mamluks age the destiny of Egypt pulled back till the country was weakened by the increase of conflicts and it was over by the conquest of the Othmans of Egypt.
Egypt under the Othman Ruling
The Othmans took the place of the Mamluks in Egypt and under the old regime all the lands were owned by the crown, he rents them to the peasants and they pay taxes for them, the taxes are paid in kind products – that means crops, but under this regime a big part of the land was given to the soldiers and high religious ministers. The Othmans tried to reduce the taxes on peasants, the improved the irrigation systems and aggregated more lands for agriculture and gave the task of collecting the taxes to the tax collectors from the peasants who paid a part of it to the deputy of the Othmani Sultan and kept the rest to themselves and with the new class of the land owners the peasants has to pay more and more taxes, then they deputed the management to specialized employees in each village to be responsible for managing the peasants affairs and that made the peasants more isolated from the ruling class and the cities.
Napoleon Bonaparte
The French led by Napoleon Bonaparte invaded Egypt in 1798 as they came from the sea and confronted the Mamluk army in the battle of the Pyramids and conquered them badly. After the destruction of the mamluk power Napoleon felt the cooperation with the Egyptian Patriot Leaders and tried to convince them that he is a friend to the Muslims and his goal from entering Egypt is to free the people from the Mamluk tyranny not to destroy Islam. And beside the governmental changes that happened, Napoleon and the French established the "French Institute" to be a place that works on the development of science, economy, arts, literature and other systems. The French scientists and engineers worked for paving roads, building factories and establishing arsenals. The Othmani government opposed Napoleon and the british led by Lord Nelson destroyed the French ships and by that they cut the road between the French and their country France. Wide rebel movements especially in Cairo in 1798 aroused, and anyway the French were forced to leave Egypt under the Othmani attacks and by the help of the English. The Othmanis took charge again but Egypt is different from what it was before.
