During her career as a translator and interpreter Mrs. Mañana has worked in several areas: international affairs, clinical trials, business, education, tourism, literature, and the legal and medical fields. Since 1988, she has been working as an in-house and freelance translator and interpreter in different countries and different agencies: The Organization of American States, The European Union, and The Southern Common Market. In addition she has experience teaching Spanish and French as a Second Language and Spanish for the workplace; she has worked in both the private and the public sectors.
She had been the Director and Instructor for the Translation/Interpreting Certificates at Durham Technical Community College from 2003 until 2011. She developed, implemented and perfected the Community Spanish Facilitator certificate that received the National Council of Instructional Administrators Award in the “Responding to Community Needs” category. In 2005, she started the only Medical Spanish Facilitator Certificate program in the North Carolina Community College System and the entire state. In 2010, Marianela received the IMIA (International Medical Interpreters Association) Distinction in Medical Interpreter Education Award.
Currently, she is the president/owner of LIT, The Language Institute of the Triangle.
