I\'ve never used Trados on my laptop before and am wondering if there is any way of using the keypad shortcuts (e.g. ALT+) without having a keypad. My laptop is an ACER Aspire 1203XV. Any suggestions very much appreciated. Thanks, Ian | | | Giles Watson إيطاليا Local time: 01:00 إيطالي إلى أنجليزي احياء لذكرى You can do this in Word | May 5, 2003 |
Hi Graham,
Bear with me because I have an Italian version of Word 97.
Go to the Strumenti (Tools) menu of Word and select Personalizza (Customize?). Word97 has a button marked Tastiera (Keyboard) at the bottom of the window. Click on this and scroll down the list in the box marked Categorie (Categories?) until you come to the item \"Macro\".

To the right of Categorie, there is another box named \"Macro\", which has a list of the macros available in Word, including the various Trados shortcuts.
Just select the shortcut macros you use, assign your preferred keyboard combinations and ... Robert is your father\'s sibling.

on my laptop there is a function key - marked in blue - next to the alt key and I press Fn + alt + / = alt +
And Fn + alt + p = Alt *
You should see the \"number pad\" keys on the lower edge of the keys. Make sense?

Hi Ian, The easiest way of using the shortcuts is with laptops where you can invoke the numeric keypad with a special function key (usually called \"Fn\"). If that works, you can use for Set/Close/Open/Get.
On most machines, however (including my current laptop), this doesn\'t work, because you have to activate and deactivate the numeric keypad - too cumbersome if you just need it for a shortcut.

I have changed the shortcut associated with Set/Close/Open/Get to (i.e. the \'+\' sign on the keyboard, not in the numeric keypad). Takes a moment to get used to, but works beautifully - the only snag being that TagEditor won\'t let you do that...

Thanks guys - I\'ll try these out in the morning. The job I\'m working on is in Tag Editor, so I\'m not sure if it will work, but if the worst comes to the worst I\'ll still know how to do it in Word the next time. | | | Easy shortcuts | May 5, 2003 |
Forget the numeric keypad - a very easy way is to use standard Word shortcuts, with Alt S (or whatever letter brings up the Trados menu on your system) and the relevant letter for the option you want. So Set/Close Next Open/Get, for instance, becomes a very quick Alt+S followed by N (without letting go of Alt, of course). Soon becomes second nature. | | | IanW (X) Local time: 01:00 ألماني إلى أنجليزي + ... بادئ الموضوع Thanks George | May 7, 2003 |
I followed George\'s advice and it worked! Thanks George - and you can call me Graham whenever you like ...
Thanks to everyone else for their suggestions.

Hello Ralf Could you please tell me how you changed the shortcut associated with Set/Close/Open ? According to Trados user guide (verson 7): "Keyboard shortcuts – each button icon has an associated keyboard shortcut that you can use to insert the relevant tag or entity during translation. Note that keyboard shortcuts cannot be customised" . Regards, Lutz | | | Olinda Graça البرتغال Local time: 00:00 برتغالي إلى أنجليزي + ...
