لست متأكدا من الترجمة ولا من أصل الكلمة أو إن كان استخدامها صحيحًا في هذا النص. الملف عبارة عن اختبارات على بعض الحقول النفطية في العراق، وبخاصة اختبارات حقن المياه.

هذه بعض نماذج الجمل التي ظهرت بها كلمة عقدة:
حفرت البئر الأولى إلى العمق ... بقطر 8 ونصف عقدة.
استخدمت بطانة 9 5/8 عقدة
أنابيب انتاج حجم 3 1/2 عقدة

على أحد مواقع انترنت وجدت استخدام الكلمة بشكل مترادف مع بوصة inch؟
هل يصير هنا نفس التطبيق؟ علما بأن التقرير قديم نسبيا ومن فترة بعيدة.

The word inch comes from the Latin word uncia, which means 1/12 (in this case, 1/12 of a foot).

In French, the word for inch is pouce, which means "thumb." This is where the modern Arabic word بوصة comes from. In an attempt to come up with a less bastardized word for "inch," some people translated the French word "pouce" to عقدة in the sense of عقدة الاصبع, which refers to one phalanx of the thumb.

Needless to say, this coinage has not been successful.
